THE TERRIBLE BEAUTY OF ANATOMY

I share a common admiration with Lymphatic Phlegm: the terrible beauty of anatomy. Anyone standing before the cascading heat of a flayed carcass can testify to its stunning efficiency and marvel at its strange splendor, for we are machines of the highest order. Our succcess can be dissected and measured, quantified, in our anatomy. In fact, we look deceptively simple: our plain exterior hides our stunning beauty in a sheaf of skin, because what is on the inside is much too great to behold. In every one of us, vivid colors, waits this terrible beauty, a concert of organs, bones, and tissue, it is the anatomist, the medical examiner, who must - daily - delve elbow deep into this existensial mystery. You might think it exacts a steep toll, but it does not, because we are reminded, through the putrefying husks of death, of life and how better to live it and we are intimately aware - like an artist or poet - of the anatomical revolt that lies withing us all. And this decomposing promise becomes a thing of comfort. Study this, and truly live. Crawl into the anatomical cave, and be changed forever.
