hero2048 thank you Gabi for adapting the scripts to the new API. Finally it is working. However, I have a minor problem with the interface handling. For any "love"/"ban" acttion, I get a: File "/usr/lib/python2.6/encodings/utf_8.py", line 16, in decode return codecs.utf_8_decode(input, errors, True) UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\u2019' in position 8: ordinal not in range(128) error. Platform: Linux Ubuntu 10.4 64 bit. Any idea what might go wrong with the encoding?

Hi there, lastFmProxy version 1.4c is now available at http://www.gabifrings.de/download.html . I continued Vidarino's work and fixed the 'love' and 'ban' rating (using the new web service API). I've just tried using the proxy for the first time and it does not work for me. As it's the first time, I can't tell if this is because of the issue about 3rd party clients going subscriber only, or just something I've done wrong in the install. When I click on "Start Radio" in the browser it takes me to a new URL http://localhost:1881/lastfm.m3u, but there's a DNS error and no contents. Can someone atvise if this sounds like I've just made some mistakes installing it, or is this typcial of the 3rd party clients issue? If so, is there any fix for this? I have already tried replacing main.py and config.py with the Voidstar versions in that discussion. Thanks

hi. i have a decent audio system connected to my computer, and would REEEEEAALLY like to be able to play last.fm through my WMP 11 so that the music would sound as good as it should. but after multiple attempts to accomplish this (including a personal e-mail from the proxy designer), i find that my techno-wizardry is not up to the task.python 3.1 seems to be installed properly, the "config.py" file has been edited, and i have double clicked on the "main.py" file multiple times. but since i don't know how to operate a python OS, i don't know if the window appearing for a moment then disappearing means the file is running. then when i enter "http://localhost:1881/" into internet explorer 8 and hit the "go" button, i get the error message saying the web page is currently unavailable. any tech. helper that can guide me through getting this up and running will have earned e-sainthood in my book.

timokeller ahem. to be honest, it's the first time I'm looking into anything like this. with regards to the 'readme' advice that comes with the proxy download, I got as far as entering username and password and leaving the rest in the config.py untouched. when opening main.py, where am I supposed to find the URL that needs copying? basically, in an ideal world, what I'd like to do is enter an artist's name in last.fm and then do all the rest in itunes (checking artist and title, skipping and loving songs etc. is the LastFM proxy the route to follow anyway? any advice will be much appreciated, t

Pindamon A friend of mine wrote a tutorial to use ProxyWay to use a dynamic proxy for last.fm. I translated it into English and posted it on my website. Its a bit of work but it does work :) Its located here: http://pindaman.net/miscellaneous

che4ako still top secret from russia: if you're not subscribed - first you should need to request cookie (request like - http://ws.audioscrobbler.com/radio/handshake.php?lalalalala...) through US or German proxy. After this other functions can work directly (with small "&api=" modification) =)

I tried using the proxy today and it does not work, after some wasting hours debugger (I'm a coder by the way), it seems that the service may no longer be available. Please save yourself time and don't try using it. So dissapointed, was looking for a way to stream the radio to my PS3 via Tversity.

danny_g Yep, last.fm radio streaming stopped working in my Amarok 1.4.8, so LastFMProxy is the only way to listen my library.BTW kudos to vidarino for this great little app!

The bug causing 3rd party players not to be able to play last.fm is now fixed, but remember that the legacy system that all this runs on is on borrowed time. The staff member who replied earlier said that ist should be fixed, so I tested all 3 players I have including the Proxy and they're all working again.

vidarino Duly noted. Thanks for the heads-up. I will be away for the weekend, but I'll see if I can get stuff back on track again soon. And I'm still around-ish. The main reason it's been untouched for the last two years is that it has worked, more or less. ;-)

Staff has responded, and it's not exactly good news. http://www.last.fm/forum/21713/_/508411 The Proxy is using an even older system than the other clients I have. I don't know if this "Legacy" system he's talking about goes for all 3rd party players, or just the Proxy, but either way, the Proxy may soon find itself obsolete short of further development by the developers, and possibly negotiations with last.fm to be allowed to continue to access last.fm as a player. The fact that the last updates to the Proxy are from 2 years ago does not bode well.

Yeah, I have 3 different 3rd party clients, and it's just like that, first song played in SpeakOn this morning and yesterday morning, then nothing. If I were to restart my computer I could probably play another song with one of them. The interesting thing is that the Proxy still uses the old methods for getting playlists and music, while the other two I have use the new methods. It's unusual for all of these to fail at the same time while noone is complaining about problems with the official software, and the flash player is working fine. Curious.

Same problem here, first song played, then just 403 Invalid ticket for the following songs. This setup worked for me before yesterday.

OK, hasn't anybody else noticed that the proxy doesn't work anymore since yesterday? the browser window just jumps from track to track and winamp shows the OK URL and plays nothing. 3rd party players haven't worked since yesterday morning. Anybody heard any news about this bug? I have 3 3rd party players for last.fm, and none of them are working now.

Has anyone tried using lastfmproxy with the Evoke Flow? lastfmproxy works beautifully with on my lan, but my evoke flow doesn’t seem to like it very much. It gets stuck at buffering 0% and main.py throws the following error: "Error sending data to client: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine" Anyone knows how I might be able to get around this? Many thanks in advance

janbenes Hello, where to put it on Linux server? I placed it under /home/lfm and set all attributes to 777, but still when I try to run main.py logged as root I get "Permission denied". Any advice?

... yes it runs on OS X very well :) no problems running python main.py , opening the proxy's website and launching iTunes.

Question B: Anyone familiar with Automator on Mac OS X 10.5. I want to run bash script within the folder where the Automator app is located. I just want to add an Automator script that a.) fires up the proxy and b.) opens the web interface in the default browser (maybe even the "start" link)
