    When I tried to download the LastFM extension it did not ask (or say) anything about platforms. I use a Mac running the latest OS X.. Anyway, the downloaded file couldn't be opened on my mac

    When I tried to download the LastFM extension it did not ask (or say) anything about platforms. I use a Mac running the latest OS X.. Anyway, the downloaded file couldn't be opened on my mac.

    The file I downloaded has an .xpi extension. Is that an extension for Windows rather than Mac? If so, is there a Mac version?

    This is an extension for the Firefox browser, it is not a stand-alone application.
    .xpi is the file extension used for Firefox Extensions and it works on Windows, Linux, and Mac. If you click the install link from within Firefox it will work properly.
