What is Last.fm free music player?
Last.fm free music player is a free music player for Google Chrome with Last.fm integration.

How does it work?
There's a little site called vk.com. That's where the tracks are coming from.

Do I need a vk.com account to use the player?
Yep, and you have to be logged in.

That's a Russian site, right?
Yes, in Soviet Russia, track scrobble you. Actually, it's like Facebook, with a dash of YouTube. It's not one of those "Psst - hey, Buddy. Wanna download some MP3's?" sites. 195 million people and counting use this site. Wikipedia

But Last.fm says "We think the site you're about to visit is untrustworthy or spam..."
Well, McAfee SiteAdvisor seems to think it's OK. There have been phishing scams aimed at users of that site, but the site itself is as legitimate as the above mentioned sites.

OK, so far, so good. Now this Chrome extension is telling me that it needs to access my private data on all websites. What's that about?
It does not access your private data. Chrome shows the warning for all extensions that access browser tabs even if they do not access any private data. See this discussion that explains it.

    I had no idea you needed a vk.com account! I'm so happy it's finally working again, when I got it for the first time though it worked perfectly and then it just stopped working all of a sudden, like it would be extremely rare for it to find a song. Now it works great yay :)

    What point of view? My extension doesn't find most of the songs, and I'm not talking about unpopular songs...

    @gharou Some features no longer work: similar track radio (unless you use the patch manager.js file), track refresh (blue button repeat button), and you can't turn off the display notifications and skip previews if track not found. Half-dead, half-alive... depends on your point of view I guess. I'm using version 26.0.1410.43 and *gasp* it's still working.

    This extension seems to be half-dead. It's a shame, cuz I really used to like it. But at this point... Well. Could someone tell me if it works with any standard compilation of Chrome? Stable/Dev/Canary?

    He's made Chromus Open Source, not sure about LFMFMP. Either way, it's working fine for me.

    Playlists working better than they have in quite a while. Still skips some tracks, but for the most part, it's like the good old days. Thanks!

    Haha a phone call from Putin. They seriously don't take any info and have a large data base of music. Why not play your play lists using the LFFMP? I never have any problems listening to a playlist and never have to use another source to listen to music. Just stay logged into vk.com. :)

    John you should try http://www.tomahawk-player.org/ It's what I'm using for my playlists now, this player was designed by a ex-last FM employee is free and goes to multiple sources to get your songs so you can play your lists again, it also has a feature called Play Now which slides a panel over right next on your last FM page will copy whats ever on it and make that a list of that like top Charts on a artist page so you can play that as a list as well

    it is (kinda, mostly) working for me since I signed up at vk. Still paranoid about that, but... it seems to work and my bank account is still intact. I ran across this little gem the other day -- http://soundojo.com/ and YouTube and MySpaceMusic is pretty good. But I miss my 200 or so playlists, and often just use my tag radio stations- a zillion tracks in there. Shockwave Flashplayer/Google still crashes often....

    It's only useless if you don't know how to use it correctly. It's never stopped working since I created a vk.com account.

    If the player seems to have stopped working - make sure you are still logged in to vk. My player stopped working on two different computers... seems like vk logged me out on both.
