I think it´s a little bit hard, because now JM has to decide what Genre he follows and how the new Album is gonna be. On the one side he could do the pop-thing and much more people would love him. on the other side there´s this great Blues-thing I personally love ( I love all JM albums, but the latest are awesome) but he wouldn´t reach all people with that thing.

I love everything John comes out with, but i think i do prefer his newer more bluesy stuff, its seems to have more emotional depth for me.

I think that John Mayer Trio also have some good songs but for me the best album is Continuum, but I don't listening so much others so I may be not subjective..

Battle studies wasn't really my thing): the track i loved best from there was "Who Says" and it wasn't the kind of song i would rave about

I prefer Continuum the best! it's so amazing mix of blues and rock. i love it. i love it. i can say it many times but i still LOVE it.

I'm about 100% sure I love his earlier stuff. I felt like he put more heart and feeling into his songs and not just what the record company/everyone else wanted. I was offended when I saw that iTunes said Battle Studies was pop. Yes, it did have some pop-ish vibes to it.. But c'mon. A guitar legend would NEVER and could NEVER be a Justin Beiber.
Heavier Things, Inside Wants Out, Continuum, Any Given Thursday, .. Best albums John had to offer.
Battle Studies.. Eh, I wouldn't go tell my friends to check it out.
Young John was my favorite.
