John Dowland (1563 – buried February 20, 1626) was an English composer, singer, and lutenist. He is best known today for his melancholy songs such as "Come, heavy sleep" (the basis for Benjamin Britten's Nocturnal), "Come again", "Flow my tears", "I saw my Lady weepe" and "In darkness let me dwell", but his instrumental music has undergone a major revival, and has been a source of repertoire for classical guitarists during the twentieth century. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Dowland

Listened to the Stlng Dowland songs. Must confess I'm not a fan, but I love the lute playing, though I know that's not him.

Oh wow, didn't know Sting has recorded some Dowland songs. Look forward to checking those out. I also think Jordi Savall should be one of the connected artists. I'm a bit biased being a gamba player, but he does perform and record a lot of Dowland.

Yeah, Sting certainly should be added. He recorded an entire album of Dowland songs with Edin Karamazov.
