  "actually indie has involved into a genre as well." - no. it hasn't. It hasn't involved, but it has certainly evolved. Arctic Monkeys and the like are consistently labelled indie, even though they are as far from the original sentiment of the movement as you could get in 2008. Nowadays I'll grant you that you can talk about Indie the genre and indie as an abbreviation of independent, specifically referring to a label affiliation, anything less than than this is just hipster talk.

  What an absurd group! Any ear can differentiate an "indie sound" from anything else nowadays although some don't know shit on how to do so. Alas, many dimwits tagged Katy Perry (the queen of generic pop) as indie. INDIE IN ITSELF IS STARTING TO BECOME A STYLE OF MUSIC, WHICH COMPLETELY DEFEATS THE LITERAL MEANING OF INDIE/BEING SIGNED IN AN INDEPENDENT LABEL. A LOT OF BANDS RIGHT NOW ARE STARTING TO DESCRIBE THEMSELVES AS HAVING AN "INDIE" SOUND AND THEN DESCRIBED MY FOOT IN THEIR BALLS AS "PAINFUL". UNDERSTANDING "INDIE" AIN'T ROCKET SCIENCE AND IT'S NOT FOR HIPSTERS ONLY!

  My opinions: Indie Rock, Indie Pop, etc are...somewhat valid...although I think there are always better tags to use. Through time the words have evolved to actually describe a certain sound, though it's still pretty un-specific. Indie on it's own is an awful tag and should die in a fire.
