What Band got you into Icelandic music?

  • Amiina and Björk's album 'Medúlla' started the fever. Gisli and múm are my newest favs.

  • Skálmöld was the first group from Iceland for me. I didn't know that music from this far country (for me, I'm from Poland) can be so good! Greetings

I knew Björk, and had one album by her (liked it a lot, but wasn't really in love) then discovered Sigur Rós, and thought they were amazing. That got me into Amiina, Múm and the Album Leaf, and made me appreciate Björk a lot more.

The Album Leaf? Jimmy LaVelle is from California. haha. A lot of his stuff is inspired by Iceland, though, and I think he's recorded there a few times.

I'm not sure if it was Seabear or Amiina, anyway it helped me to find other great bands such as Parachutes, Mum, Sigur Rós..
But I will always prefer Amiina.

Sigur Ros, Jakobinarina, Olafur Arnalds, Bang Gang and Solstafir :D

  • I've loved Bjork for a long time, but Sigur Ros really got me hooked into Icelandic music.

  • Leaves! Can't believe nobody else mentioned them through the first 7 pages I read. Although Leaves baited me it t'was the infinite genius of Sigur Ros that hooked me. =-)

  • amiina, one of my favorites

  • Yeah, Sigur Rós force my ears to hear Amiina, Mum, Kira Kira, and the wonderful Ólafur Arnalds.. Hmm, when they were all able to visit my country huh?

I heard relatively new Björk first, but like so many of us it was Sigur Rós that really charmed me. And then when I heard Múm and relistened to some of Björk's older music, I knew I was onto a good thing. Ólafur Arnalds and Amiina are the icing on the cake!

  • The sugarcubes at late 80's was the first!
