What kind of dubstep do you like?

Do you like wobbly party beats or glitchy idm-dubstep? happy or dark? reggae-style or technoid? maybe ambient? with or without mc?

i somehow like dark, technoid soundscapes. cold, sharp. like Distance or Vex'd.
but i also love the distant ambient sounds burial makes.
IDM-like dubstep is somehow more difficult but very good if you have the patience needed to get into it, for me it would be Boxcutter.
Those "mainstream"-dubstep bangers like Skream are not really my thing. Sometimes i enjoy the mindless wobble assault, but mostly i just think it's monotone and boring...

that's what i like most, at the moment...

Re: What kind of dubstep do you like?

I used to love Vex'd, I think that's how I got into dubstep, just searching the last.fm radio, when I was into all that dark IDM kind of stuff, but now I can't get into all that idm-like dubstep.

Now I just love anything with a huge wobble. My favourite producers have to be Benga & Kromestar. It's got all that slow beat wobble stuff, but they keep it dark at the same time. I think that's why I don't like Skream - I reckon his stuff just sounds really cheesy, but his early bootleg stuff is already, i guess.

I really don't like Burial. I've come to notice that all his beats sound very alike. I've got his Hyperdub 001 and Ghost Hardware EPs, and all the beats are almost the same, which makes all of his stuff sounds quite similar.

i'm not buying EPs, so i only listen to artists releasing albums, and burial was the first one i got into... it's true some of his beats are similar, but they still are awesome somehow ;) i like the self titled album most, especially "southern comfort" and "pirates" as well as "distant lights"
maybe try them out here at last.fm if you dont know them already.

but im asking myself the question why everyone tags burial as dubstep, but somehow i guess it's because the bass lines are too deep for my speakers...

    haha.
i don't know about his new stuff, but his old stuff, especially the EPs I have are stylistically very close to dubstep, but he always seems to bring a little more into the genre. He's just keeping it experimental I guess.

    i love burial too

  • Me like Dubstep too...

I found out about this music through lastfm about a year ago, I think... I never really listened to electronic music before so dubstep was the first music I really listened to that involved electronics, synths, turntables. I had always enjoyed the sounds of reggae and when I used to play Grand Theft Auto 3 for the PS2 I would always cruise around doing missions while listening to K-Jah the dub radio station on that game, I always liked that style, dub that is. So I would listen to dub here on lastfm and somehow I linked off to some dubstep and heard it and enjoyed it. Initially I thought it sounded like hip hop the slow beat and all but I quickly realized it was much different from that and really had nothing to do with it. I'm not all sophistacated when it comes to electronic music, but out of all that I have tried to listen to Dubstep reigns supreme, I mean since then I've tuned in to Jungle, DnB, Ambient, IDM, Trip Hop, Breakcore and enjoy them all too, but it seems I'm about ten years late on some of those. Some dubstep is kind of too catchy skream, caspa, rusko, some requires alot of concentration Kode9, Scuba, Pinch, Burial, and all, and some is just catchy and fucking sick like vex'd, Digital Mystikz, Distance, Sub Osc, Plastician, but in all as long as the music is about progression dubstep can't go wrong, This music is awesome if you get it, and are willing to hear heavy wobbly, sparse rhythms that can make you party, or kick back or smoke huge amounts of danky herb, preferably any kush and a pretty lady to feel the bass with. Im Socal so really you dont hear this around, its usually just hip hop (mainstream stuff, crunk all radio shit) and techno, trance typical dance music that I cant get into, so I'm waiting till one one of these gigs goes down in L.A. or something so I can see what this is all about truly about.I know its getting played out but I want to hear this on a huge sound system preferably by Kode9.

i want dubstep in germany! -_-

  • anything pushing shit so things don't get stale. we don't dubstep to go the way of dnb! kode9's label always keep things fresh, I don't know whether you'd always call it dubstep, but that's a good thing, if it sticks too close to a formula you're dead. the bug always sounds amazing. quarta330, boxcutter, micoland, distance, ebola's brodman e.p., king cannibal, disrupt, milanese, starkey, digital mystiks... not so much skream and benga or loefah really.

wobbly ass dubstep. DZ, Caspa, Benga, Rusko, Bar 9, a few Evol Intent songs get dubby.... I dont like the repetitive shit. The heavy drops, bass and wobbles is what I look for :)

  • Nasty stuff

Hi guys, I got into dubstep through Goth Trad, Shackleton and Burial but soon found Vex'd. I like the nastier darker noisier stuff. But then I found Broken Note and these guys are just amazing! Anyone know any similar brutal dubstep like this?

i love lots of dubstep. once in a while i'll find a cheesy track that i don't really like but eh. borgore is ridiculous, but i also like burial so my taste in dubstep ranges from the incredibly heavy to very downcast and melancholy. it's just the mood you're in

    FUCK!
  • Discovered dubstep on pukkelpop last year when Benga was playing there. Though apart from some festivals, you can't really find much live dubstep in Belgium, still electro going strong here :o.
Saw Rusko on Dour some weeks ago :), missed N-type unfortunately

I appreciate any dubstep really, it all depends on the mood I guess... The wobbling sound like Benga and Kromestar is just fantastic tbh... influence from reggae in dubstep is quite enjoyable aswell :)
