  • Any new music discovered recently?

Have you discovered any new artists recently and you really liked them?

I just discovered Young Divas, a girl group from Australia that makes disco covers and I loved their versions of their songs!!

No. And it's worrying me. A few more months of not finding a new artist to like, and I'm already halfway down the road to geezerdom and talking about the radio "when I was your age..."

OK, I'm paranoid. But really, I've had a hard time as of late, almost like we're amidst a powerpop recession. But for me recently, it seems the trend is I'll find a great song but then find that the artist's overall scope isn't really my bag.

  • My suggestion to Dack would be, maybe it's time to try out a new genre. I listened to nothing but goth and industrial for years. After a while it started to all sound the same, and I got bored, so I branched out. I'm not saying you should stop listening to your old stuff, because I didn't. But if today's powerpop isn't doing it for you, why not branch out a bit?

    Recent discoveries I love:
Pretty Girls Make Graves (not a new band, just new to me)
Joy Disaster (not to be confused with Joy Division)
Chewing Pics (still unsigned last I checked, but you can hear a few songs on MySpace.)

All my 'new discoveries' are old bands i've heard about many times, but didn't listen to. The most recent for ex. are Ultravox and D'ERLANGER. Unfortunately, _new_ music, except for some electronic projects, dissapoints me.

    August Burns Red

They're a metalcore band. My dad thinks they're nothing but angry noise, but it doesn't make me angry. :P I love them.

Recently I started listening to Himekami, a band leaded by japanese songwriter and musician Yoshiaki Hoshi (he died a few years a go, R.I.P.), who also composed some videogame soundtracks.
The band plays some chillout/new age music, mixed with traditional japanese intruments.

Calvin Harris is a producer and musician. He plays electro music.

Punch Drunk a pop punk/ powerpop band from USA. They're really underrated. On last.fm you will find some samples.

My newest discovery has been Pure Reason Revolution, apparently progressive rock, but I've never really heard much progressive rock, so I cannot say whether this is an accurate description ;)

I've also been into Indica lately - Finnish pop. Yay.

  • I have heard about Artillery some time ago, but it's not long since I started listening to them. Great danish technical thrash.

  • Recently got into Santogold, unusual, but great once you've given it a few listens!

  • krautrock

i discovered the genre "krautrock" a few weeks ago and im totally fascinated.

Krautrock, also known as Kosmische Musik, is a generic name for the experimental music scene that appeared in Germany in the late 1960s and gained popularity throughout the 1970s, especially in Britain. BBC DJ John Peel in particular is largely credited with spreading the reputation of krautrock outside of the German-speaking world.

    I've just listened

The Cinematics are fairly good. Very unkown though, unfortunatly. Better than some bands out there, just need listeners.

  • Here Come the Mummies - http://www.myspace.com/herecomethemummies

There is nothing out there like them...it's like really poppish...versions of funk, jazz, soul, R&B, Blues, salsa, reggae, mambo, and those all but forgotten genres. Absolutely amazing vocals. Highly recommend.

Gabriella Cilmi she sounds a bit like Amy Winehouse, but her style is more pop. She is just 17 but when she recorded she was still 16. Amazing discover in my opinion bigger than Katie Melua.

Not really discovered many new artists recently but I'm experimenting with new genres and starting off with classic artists so in a sense, they are discoveries for me.
