What music would you like to hear in horror movie?

I'm a creation of your mind.
  • it depends on the story.....
actually, i prefer dark, slow and pretty decent bass stuff!
or crazy psychotic shit that goes fast, loud, chaotic and high, so it hurts!

  • Without a doubt, I wanna hear those classic 80s "creepy synth" kind of sounds.

    I agree.

I personally like dark, gloomy type music in horror movies.

But I think songs made by bands that weren't intended for the movie can also work well if used right (I'm pretty sure there's a word for that, but I can't think of it at the moment).

For example, in Argento's Phenomena, he uses songs like Iron Maiden's "Flash of the Blade" and Motörhead's "Locomotive" and they work well for the scenes they are used in.

  • For Teenie-Slasher movies i would like to hear some Horrorpunk like Misfits or Blitzkid or Murderdolls etc.! For old movies like The Exorcist the synth music is very good or other occult horror...but all in all I prefer music made by Bands (not only for movie)...i want to hear The Misfits in some movies, that would be great :)

    We are not alone!

I too think it depends on the style of the film. In my opinion a great theme is always a good idea for a horror movie but songs not specifically written for the movie can also work well. Maybe because it's more "normal" music (I suppose that depends on your tastes *g* ) one could relate to.
For example, I thought the usage of Don't Fear the Reaper in Scream was great.

  • It depends on the horror movie
it most certainly help to create a certain atmosphere

I think the scariest horrors are those without music :/ Music somehow prepares me for what will happen next and it gives me a feeling that I am really watching a movie. But when the music is absent, I have a feeling that I am there; in real life, music doesn't play when something frightening is happening XD I believe that human screaming, heavy breathing, running and panic makes the best "music" in horrors.

  • I have yet to see a horror movie with good Goth-Country in it. I think it would be great to watch a grainy, sepia toned Southern horror film with Lonesome Wyatt and the Holy Spooks or Sons of Perdition doing the soundtrack.

I like for a horror movie's score to include some upbeat, non-threatening passages in addition to the dark, gloomy "dun dun DUUUUNNN" stuff. Harping on one mood gets stale.

really, music selection is dependent on the movie. but personally, i'd like songs from muse's origin of symmetry and absolution would work for horror films. there's something about the theatrics and heavy emotions from those songs that fit with horror. i know muse has been used in high tension and 28 weeks later.

yes, that's my opinion as well - the music should be orientated on the film. i personally prefer dark industrial or something like dark choral

  • The opening of None So Vile by Cryptopsy

  • Honestly, a whole horror film filled with 1950's rockabilly and psychobilly tunes.

Your job is to craft my doom. So I am not sure how well I should wish you, but I'm sure we'll have alot of fun.

I would like to find a movie that sucessfully uses death metal or black metal for a soundtrack. although it would probably have to be instrumental so that the vocals don't distract you

  • noise rock/ no wave/post-punk/dark wave etc. Anything avant garde or unpredictable.

Something classical like Maurice Ravel Le gibet...It was used in 'The Hunger'..Or just some Scores from String instruments..They can be really good...BTW my favorite movie (Return of the living dead) has a awesome punk soundtrack that works perfectly for that movie.
