If you like japanese-style jazzy hiphop, you should definitely check out the sublime mixtapes (1-6) by jazz one, Hydeout Productions' first and second collection, Kero One and Soon it Will be Cold Enough by Emancipator.

And if you're into positive feel-good having-fun Hip-Hop, you should check out my favorite duo: People Under The Stairs

PS: beardedwoman, have you heard Onyx? Dunno if it's really what you're looking for, but they're not bad.

Best straight hiphop album of 2009 till now:

Diamond District - In The Ruff (with Oddisee - 90's sound!)
    Free (legal!) download here: http://blog.diamonddistrictdmv.com/

Another artist you def should check out is Blu, especially his album with Exile: Below The Heavens.

Japanese ish i digg: Super Smoky Soul, diyTokion, Mitsu The Beats (new album is ill!), Tettorybad, Gagle (instrumentals), Jazz One Mixtapes, Quasimode (Jazz), Raythought, Nujabes, ...

Btw, talkin' about japanese jazzy hiphop & not mentioning Mitsu The Beats is like a crime! (jus kiddin') But check his new album: A Word To The Wise!

This guy is REALLY talented. Good singer with well thought out raps. He is sort of like a Stankonia era Andre 3K with a WAY diff voice
