-Iron Maiden- The Wicker Man (Adrian Smiths part)
-At the Drive-In- One armed scissor (Jim Wards part)
    -Green Day-American Idiot
-AC/DC- Rock N´Roll Train (Angus Youngs part)
    -Disco Ensemble- Drop Dead, Casanova

    BionicSuicide sa:

Well yeah, James and Kirk both play it with only downstrokes. It's the original way to play it, and it sounds better then alt picking, it is way harder though obviously.

Yeah, I know it's not really a beginner song, but I said that. It's also why it's rated 5 stars, because that's how hard it would be when you're trying to play it as a beginner. I still see playing 5 months as a beginner though, it's also about the same time I tried to learn that song.

Well yeah, some of the riffs are all downs for sure, the verse sounds pathetic without it... The spidercrawl is kinda hard without alternating, though.

Oh, and for an easy song (REALLY easy): Breaking the Law. The song is a joke.

  • The spidercrawl is hard, but it is so damn satisfying to nail it with downstrokes only. When I first read Kirk Hammet saying it was down only, I thought he was taking the piss.

As for song suggestions, Metallica - For Whom the Bell Tolls *
This is essential beginner fodder, along with Megadeth's Symphony of Destruction.

An awesome solo for beginners must be Pantera - Floods, the outro solo. So awesome and so easy to play, and stretches your fingers. Do not attempt it if you still play with your thumb on top of the neck.

I remember looking up the tab on the Internet, and being baffled. It was a while ago. But it's actually quite simple. Check out this guy:

    Easy Rock/Metal Song to play

For Whom The Bell tolls by Metallica, Roulette by SOAD & Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath are another two songs easy to play. All of them are in standard tuning.

First off; that's 3 songs. Second; none of those are really EASY. Planet Caravan has a long, hard to remember solo, if you haven't played guitar for a long time.

Easy songs are something like the "Hurt" cover Johnny Cash made. Or MGMT's "Pieces of What". Those are EASY. Chords + a bit of picking in Hurt, and only chords for Pieces...

Or something like Disorder by Joy Division. That's also quite simple.

Let's put a smile on that face! - Beauty is a curse on the world.
  • Planet Caravan is really easy. It is just two bars that repeats. People don't have to learn the solo note for note in order to play Planet Caravan - you just learn those two bars, and everyone listening will identify the song. That's why it genuinely counts as "easy to play" - you can sound pretty good with minimal effort.

And who says the solo has to be replicated anyway. When I learn the song, I like to make up my own solo. Just nail the Dorian mode and see what you come up with once you are done repeating the rhythm bit.

And just because a song is "easy" doesn't mean it can't challenge you and push you to be a better guitar player.
