    Introduce Yourself

    Hi members !
Here is the place to introduce yourself and answer a couple of questions about guitar. Even short answers would do !

    1) Do you own a guitar (or several) ? If so which kind, brand and model ?
picture(s) and review(s) appreciated if it doesn't bother you

    2) If you don't own one yet : which kind, brand model are you planning on buying ?

    3) How long and how seriously have you been playing ?

    4) How would you describe your level ?

    5) In which music style is your guitar playing oriented ?

    6) Do you write music/compose or planning to do so ?

    7) Are you expecting something specific from this group ?

    8) Any commentary you'd like to add about yourself.

I'll go first (hope I won't be the last...)

    1) Do you own a guitar (or several) ? If so which kind, brand and model ?

I have both an electric and electric acoustic :

    &
Fender Telecaster Highway 1 and Takamine EG523SC

    - I started playing on a Fender e-acoustic probably made of bonzaï wood cause it really sounded like something that could have been used to torture royal spies during the XVI century, and trust me, they would have confessed it all...
    - Btw, I strongly inadvise you to buy any Acoustic made by Fender.
The brand's excellent for electrics, but their acoustics really make any ear hurt and they are pretty incomfortable to play.

    2) If you don't own one yet : which kind, brand model are you planning on buying ?

I'm not supposed to answer, but when some money comes in, I'd like to spend it for a Baby or Big Baby Taylor

    3) How long and how seriously have you been playing ?

Approximatively 3/4 years on and off. I've been seriously practising on a daily basis during the last 4 months, and it really works !

    4) How would you describe your level ?

I'd say almost close to be more or less good...

    5) In which music style is your guitar playing oriented ?

    Folk, Rock, Alternative rock...

    6) Do you write music/compose or planning to do so ?

Yes very basic stuff, definetely far from being excellent material but it's satisfiying and really fun to do.

    7) Are you expecting something specific from this group ?

Solidarity, getting better and making guitar pals.

    8) Any commentary you'd like to add about yourself.

I have very eclectic taste in music, and open to any musical recommendation.
You can check my profile to see what I listen to.

  • You won't be the last :).

I recently got a cheap one, a black Ibanez V50.

I've been "playing" for a couple of weeks now, not very seriously, a couple of times a week, for half an hour or so.

As far as my level is concerned, I'm currently a hopeless amateur wannabe. I can play a handful of songs, but I can't seduce girls on beaches just yet.

I'm trying to find and learn some easy songs from artists I like, e.g. Radiohead, Tracy Chapman, Johnny Cash, Belle and Sebastian and some local artists.

I'm not planning to compose anything, because, frankly, that's way out of my league.

I'm not expecting anything specific from this group. I suspect there will be some useful tips and hints and experiences shared here, as the group grows.
And I admire the enthusiasm and effort put into this, so kudos to the group leader :).

    I like your flowers.

    Re: Introduce Yourself

I actually have a guitar that looks like the first picture on the group page. It is pretty cheap, because my parents wouldn't buy me a good guitar until I can play it.

    I got it in July.

Absolutely, no talent... as of yet!! :)

Electric. I listen to a lot of Indie music, but I'd really like to play music like 70s and 80s post-punk like Joy Division, The Cure and Echo & The Bunnymen. I really dig that kind of music.

Of course, I plan to get an acoustic guitar someday as well.

I'm not planning to write any music but you never know!

Basically, to learn tabs, get tips from other users and share music I've been able to play.

  • Do you own a guitar (or several) ? If so which kind, brand and model??
A fender squire strat in black

How long and how seriously have you been playing??
for about a week after i got it, then gave up. Haven't been on it for over two years, plus i don't have an amp atm.

How would you describe your level??
    Total shite

In which music style is your guitar playing oriented??
    improvised noise dronecore

Do you write music/compose or planning to do so??
    nope

Are you expecting something specific from this group??
nope, i just joined because i like joining groups

Any commentary you'd like to add about yourself
I would love to be able to play, but i just cant be arsed to put any time into it.

I have a cheap Fender Acoustic that I bought 9 years ago.

I played for a while after I bought it, but haven't played much since then.

    My experience level is crap

I hope to become at least an ok player from tips from other users.

    1) Do you own a guitar (or several) ? If so which kind, brand and model?
Fender acoustic, it's about 15 years old. With the weather extremes in the northeast, i'm pleased it's survived the elements.
I also have a Les Paul electirc guitar, but i don't play it much.

    3) How long and how seriously have you been playing ?
I'm 30 now, I started playing when I was 14. It was always my dream to be a decent singer/guitar player.

    4) How would you describe your level ?
Above average, i'm not good enough to know a song by ear first listen, but i can pick out chords with repeated listens. I can also read sheet music and play from that. I don't believe tablature is a good way to learn, chords all the way. :)

    5) In which music style is your guitar playing oriented ?
pop, rock, some grunge/post grunge, pop punk

    6) Do you write music/compose or planning to do so ?
I'd like to try, I mostly play around with cover songs for fun and to entertain my friends.

    7) Are you expecting something specific from this group ?
I like to join groups and this seemed like a worthwhile one to be a part of.

    8) Any commentary you'd like to add about yourself.
    Left handed guitarists rock. :)

I have three guitars: a cheap spanish guitar, with which I started to play; a sonora stratocaster-like guitar, when I wanted to "get electric" :D; and a Grass Root Guitars which is a "copy" from this one which is used sometimes by Kirk Hammett from Metallica:

    2) If you don't own one yet : which kind, brand model are you planning on buying ?

    3) How long and how seriously have you been playing ?
I have been playing since I was fifteen.

    4) How would you describe your level ?
    I think it's a medium level...

    5) In which music style is your guitar playing oriented ?
    Rock, metal,... anything.

    6) Do you write music/compose or planning to do so ?
No actually, but in the past I composed something when I was in a band.

    7) Are you expecting something specific from this group ?
See if I can remember things :D.

    8) Any commentary you'd like to add about yourself.
    Let there be Rock!

  • I own a Fender Squier Sunburst and some shitty spanish guitar which my father bought when he started playing guitar (which is 20 years ago now).

(I'll only show a picture of the Fender):

When I can afford it (and when I am a better guitar player) I will buy maybe a real Stratocaster.

I've been playing for around 3 - 4 months now, so I know how to pick chords, read tabs and such, but I am far from good enough to play any songs which involves any kind of skill.
I mostly enjoy rock and such, so that's what I play. Rock, punk and post to be exact.

I've been writing songs since the age of 15, poems and such, but never music (I intend to do so).

    I LOVE music. :)

Edit: Sorry for the HUGE picture.

Let's put a smile on that face! - Beauty is a curse on the world.

I´m planning to buy Epiphones SG when I rich enough but with students budget It will take a looooooong time.

    3) How long and how seriously have you been playing ?
I´ve been playing guitar for about three months now.
I have enough ambition to play even with that piece of junk that I own.

    4) How would you describe your level ?

  • hey

    1) So I own three guitars, two cheap acoustics - I think one is a Kapok - and I have a Yamaha bass.

    3) I've had the Yamaha bass for a couple of years now, but it has currently taken up residence in my wardrobe. I originally bought it to practise at home for music class when I was at school, but I never really got into learning how to play it properly. And the acoustics I've had for a while now too. I bought the second because the Kapok is a bit small ... and 12 bar blues is pretty much as far as I got.

    4) yeah, I've never had proper lessons, so I'd definitely class myself as a beginner.

    5) One day, when I actually get the basic chords down pat, I'd like to play sort of folk/pop-rock sounding music.

    6) I write lyrics every now and then, and I'd really like to be able to put them to music.

    7) Just hoping to get some pointers from this group, and some inspiration to keep learning.
