  have an issue that's probably faced by those who lead a large number of groups... I have 18 with a lot of overlapping membership. When I start a new group I've found it grows very quickly if I message the members of my existing groups (as just one tool). I've seen empty groups have 40 members overnight this way. The problem is that now that I have 18 groups, messaging all of them (about big changes to a group as well as new groups) means that some people get 8 or 10 identical messages. Is there a way to create a merged list so that nobody gets dupes? Manually won't work well as combined membership is in the low four figures. Ideas?

  I don't know of any way, I'm afraid -- does anyone else? The only approach I can think of is to make membership by approval only (temporarlly -- long enough to put the person off).

  My group shoutbox is for members only but a spammer keeps repeatedly joining my group, posting in the shoutbox and then leaving. Is there a way to prevent an individual user from joining my group?

  With regard to your second question: no. it's not sorted out, and no, I doubt that there's any point griping about it (Last.fm is contemptuous of its users), but I suppose you don't lose anything trying.

  1} How do you do a search for a group? 2) Is the business of Group members being both "banned" and "pending" at the same time sorted yet? (I have this problem with both of the groups I started.) If not, when will it be? Is there any point in contacting Last.fm and griping about it?

  Group leaders have probably noticed that one of the many, mant problems with the new Last.fm is that group statistics are generally wrong -- hopelessly and randomly wrong. For example, the membership numbers for this group are miscounted, and all the members are listed as both banned and pending...

  Thanks for the invitation ! I had some problems to find members, but Gamester (the leader of many classical music groups) gave me some advices : to send invitations to members and groups, ti use shoutboxes, etc. It seems to be efficient...

  If people think Group Owners is attempting to compete with any other group, they have the wrong idea. I created the group to help out other group owners. Last.fm is big enough to have similar groups. You're free to join the one(s) you think best serve you.

  Since I can see this group isn't empty yet I refuse to leave until everybody else does. There are countless Britney Spears, Sugababes, Rihanna,... groups here on last.fm; why shouldn't there exist two group leader groups?

  more members yes but when i looked at that member list i didnt recognize a single name on it. a bunch of my friends and well known last.fm members are in this one and i dont think a new group needs to be made whenever discussion in one group slows down.

  Frankly, I find this notion that groups of this kind should be in competition is -- well, the kindest word I can use is perplexing. I'm not interested in mine's bigger than yours contests of the sort that Tarkus and MrsSparkes seem to want. I've messaged all the members of this group to explain the situation.
