Pistols didn't do it for money or fame. Go watch The filth and fury by Julien temple. They were not at all popular at the time, many people hated them, attacked them, threw things at them. they did it because they had a message to tell everyone.

nervous_brkdown There's nothing wrong with The Sex Pistols (although I don't consider myself a fan of them). What's wrong is the misconception that they were the first punk band. They were just the first to become popular.

I used to get annoyed at people saying the Clash were better than the Pistols. BUT I've actually come to realize the error of my ways. The truth is that the Pistols are largely just a re-hash of the NY Dolls & Heartbreakers. Still a great band, but not quite The Clash. Now if you want to insist the HEARTBREAKERS or DOLLS are better than the Clash, I'll go along with that!!

Plus The Clash/Damned used to support the Pistols back in the day. And if anyone think the Sex Pistols band members themselves got a lot of money, then you're wrong. They hardly got paid anything (Apart from the EMI signing), some of them had to even had to get the bus home after a gig because Malcom McLaren kept hogging their earnings.

If you don't have any idea about what was goin' on, just go to the rental shop, rent Westway to the World, watch and see Clash showing appreciation to Sex Pistols as a major influence.

I was lucky enough to see most of the first wave UK punk groups in 1976 onwards inc The Clash, Pistols, 999 etc. The music changed my life and I was inspired to form Basczax and was lucky enough to have met and played with the likes of The Damned, Rizillos, Gang of Four, OMD and many more.
