    Pimp a band!

Post all your recommendations here. With "femme metal" on a rise, it's hard to pick out the really good ones from the mediocre (or worse, the crappy!) Help us out by posting what you think is a good band. And please, don't tell us about the big wigs of femme metal. We want something fresh and unique and most importantly, worth listening to. =P

Mankind Is Obsolete - I HAVE to pimp my favorite band ever. They're an industrial rock band from Los Angeles, California, and thanks to their lovely keyboardist, all of their music is fully streamable on their artist page.

Exilia - Great hard rock band from Italy. It's not the type of music I listen to on a regular basis, but I really like them.

Just a couple of my favorites.

  • *Brace yourself for a long post...*

Evilion - A great, under-appreciated Finnish symphonic metal band with a unique sound that uses two female vocalists (one with "rock" style voice, and the other with a more classical style), as well as a few grunts on a couple songs. Don't know what happened to them recently though, or if they're still active at all - they haven't updated their site in a long time. I know that the "rock" style vocalist left the bands too - and they never even mentioned that on the site either, so I don't know if they ever found a replacement or what.

But check them out regardless if you haven't heard them - their whole debut album (Vanity) is available for free, legal download on their website! (They are definitely not for everyone though, but I strongly suggest trying out their music and giving it some time to grow on you!)

3rd Room - A relatively new Italian symphonic (I guess you would say) metal band that uses a lot of classical elements (at least in the music itself, not so much in the vocals). They only have one EP out "Frame Of Mind", at least I think it's out... I e-mailed the band asking where I could find it, but, quite frankly I didn't quite understand the response... It sounded like it may not be out yet, but I want to buy it as soon as I can!

You can hear some of their tracks on their profile on this site too, or on MySpace.

Overdream - A Hungarian symphonic metal band with very operatic vocals. Their music lacks a little adrenaline, but is quite polished and well done. They have a few samples on their website.

Their debut and so far only CD is really hard to come by, however. They have an on-line store listed on their site that ships to Europe, but if you want it in the U.S. the only place I found was a small site in Magyar called Folio. It's hard to navigate as it's not in English, but it can be done since that's where I bought it. The shipping is extremely expensive though - more than the CD itself! And if you live in another country, then I don't know where it can be bought... One of the above two might work though.

There's also a couple of other symphonic metal bands, the Swiss Legenda Aurea and the Finnish Amberian Dawn - both of which are very good, though Amberian Dawn haven't even released an EP yet (they are currently working on a debut album however). You can hear a song from them on MySpace though - and it's plain to see that they hold a lot of potential!

And, adding a couple more slightly more well known bands, there's the Goth rock groups Asrai and The LoveCrave - both of which are spectacular, and two of my favorite bands. They are both very different, but I highly recommend each if you haven't heard them!

Stolen Babies - crazy good fun =P

Unexpect - even crazier and definitely good mmm.

Ram-Zet - sort of in the same vein as Unexpect, but less crazy.

Aesma Daeva - symphonic metal with classically trained singers.

    i'm sorry these descriptions suck. :( =P

    Hi everyone,

Have you heard of the Dutch band Alerion yet? Alerion is best described as a Female Fronted Metal band with a Progressive Edge. They combine Female Fronted (or Gothic) vocals, with a guitar-oriented, heavy and melodic sound.

Because of this unusual combination of vocals and music, Alerion's music is slightly different from that of most bands out there. Two examples of bands who combine Female Vocals with 'non-gothic' music include To-Mera and Echoes of Eternity, although both (awesome) bands create a different combination than Alerion.

You can check out Alerion's new promo Turn of Fate in full on Last.fm, both streaming and as a free download. Or you could visit their website directly and download the music there.

    Links:

I hope you all enjoy it!

    Update: spring 2009

  • Evig Natt - extreme gothic/black metal

Diablo Swing Orchestra - jazzy avant-garde music.

Act of God - operatic death metal. They have some really great songs on their second album. One of the best sopranos I've ever heard (which really isn't that many =P)

The Sins of Thy Beloved - Hooray!!!

In Loving Memory - doom metal. after recording the demo, the singer has been replaced with a man though. :(

Eeriness - good old fashioned beauty and the beast ggothic metal. not too original though.

The Dresden Dolls - dark punk/cabaret duo.
