    Friulian

Alternate names: Furlan, Frioulan, Frioulian, Priulian, Friulano
Dialects: East Central Friulian, Western Friulian, Carnico. Friulian, Ladin, and Romansch are separate languages (R. A. Hall, Jr. 1978, personal communication). F. B. Agard considers it to be structurally closer to Italian than to Romansch (personal communication 1981).

I added Zuf de zur here and at the Resian thread, because they sing in Friulan and in Resian, developing their dual cultural heritage.

Braul, an interesting furlan band that comes from Friuli country. They play an acoustic version of traditional music, with strong influences of renaissance music and female vocals. Their first disc, "Corte di Lunas" is mainly acoustic (instrumental), with female vocals on about half the tracks. The melodies of several songs were actually written by a 16th century composer Giorgio Mainiero, giving them an interesting "medieval" touch. The songs on the second album "Ciarandis", while maintaining the characteristic sound, are more inspired by the traditional folk music of Friuli. One of the strong points of this band are the wonderfull female vocals. Both discs received very good recensions from specialised magazines and have won regional prizes for best folk album. They are virtually unknown outside of Friuli.
My favourite song is Marie Madalene. And they have an interesting political song blaming the Corsican traitor Napuleone Bonaparte (Maledet Napoleon), who stained Villa Manin, at Passariano, the home of the Venice Doge Ludovico Manin, by signing a Treaty with Austria that sealed the end of the century-old Serenissima Republic of Venice.

  • Carantan, La sedon salvadie, Arbe garbe and Zur de zuf

La sedon salvadie is a band that has more than four albums, so it could be deemed as streamable?
Arbe garbe has at least two albums as Carantan.

I added Zuf de zur here and at the Resian thread, because they sing in Friulan and in Resian, developing their dual cultural heritage.

    Added.

I think I understood the confusion with "streamable", it simply means that there are songs available to listen in Last.fm, nothing else.

  • Ok!

  • The correct spelling of *Zuf de zur (wrong) is 'Zuf de žur, an interesting combination of characters in Friulian in the first word, which means 'mixture, medley', and 'žur' (which means 'party', in resian/slovenian). However I was no able to find more stuff of them in lastfm with the actual spelling.
