I've seen MBV 3 times - once I took a friend who didn't know much about them, and I didn't warn her about how loud it gets. She was pissed.

Sunn O))) are the loudest band I've heard live, but in a much more pleasurable way than MBV which just fucking hurt.

During Batcat and Like Herod Mogwai were probably just as loud. Though with Like Herod, three guitars play the same note (you know which one) at the same time which probably makes it seem louder. I literally jumped out my skin when the howl came in.

The close I've come is I didn't wear earplugs for Mono. I had RRRRRING for about two days, and I was right standing right in front of Taka and his amp. So is Mogwai louder than MBV? I've yet to experience them live.
