For fans of the music of David Ford
Thieved from David Ford's own website biography:
(please note this is pretty out of date and important updates will be sent out to members periodically :) )
By way of the beach in Nice, the rain in Manchester and a commune in Eastbourne, David Ford has spent the last few months in the cellar under his Lewes flat recording the songs that make up 'I Sincerely Apologise For All The Trouble I've Caused'.
'I Sincerely Apologise For All The Trouble I've Caused' is an album of words and melodies that whisper and shout defiantly at the constant disappointments that litter our lives.
The album's tone is set by key songs such as the epic 'I Don't Care What You Call Me' - "a bastards lament" and David's memo to himself, the anthemic 'Cheer Up (You Miserable Fuck)', which features his local football team on backing vocal duties. It is an album born out of the positive philosophy of "shit happens but if it doesn't kill you, get up and keep moving forward".
The brilliantly polemic and jaw dropping live favourite 'State Of The Union' will be released ahead of the album as a one track single featuring David's own 'live in one take' video version of the song. This song superbly observes the everyday experience of being lied to, cheated and generally fucked over by big government / business / media / record labels. "It's page after page of vitriolic spouting edited down into four and a half minutes" says David.
On his recent tour this "four and a half minutes of bile" was extended closer to eight minutes and had audiences from Brighton to Glasgow mesmerised as he ran around the stage like a man possessed utilising guitars, percussion and half inched technology to create an intense and impassioned performance.
Any attempts at modern comparisons don't quite get to the heart of David Ford and whilst he's got a soft spot for Ryan Adams, to find his actual peers you have to go back to some of the great curveball mainstream mavericks of melody, romance and inventiveness - artists such as Todd Rundgren and Tom Waits. Not that David Ford cares all that much for comparisons - he's too busy moving forward.
