    Bowie books

Does anyone here collect books? I have about 18 different Bowie books. In the mid and late 80s I was buying everything I could find, but have not bought much since.
What in your opinion is the best biography on Bowie?

Hmmmm... I tend to think that most Bowie books, especialy the bio´s, tend to have a tabloid magazine-ish aproash to the man and his life.
I don´t care much for that. I actiualy only own one Bowie book. It was a present from a friend. It´s called "Alias" and it´s written by Peter and Leni Gillman. I liked it. I read another, more recent, one. I don´t remember the title. I contained interviews with members of the band, like Alomar and so on. I actiualy liked that one too - apart from thonking that some of the musicians seemed like total assholes!

    Any recomendations?

There´s a new one out in Denamrk called "Station til station" - the reviews are rather good. I´m thinking of bying it...

I have Alias too. I enjoyed that book.
Most of my books are not "tabloid magazine-ish". The only one that might be considered that way might be "Backstage Passes" by Angela Bowie. However, it has been a long time since I read any of these books.

Well, I might just be imagining that they might be. I remember growing up and reading about "Bowie bites girl on her ass", "Bowie´s got AIDS", "Bowie Making a movie about being gay" etc. etc. and maybe that coloured my view on journalist writing about Bowie.

I only have Bowie biography "Bowie: Loving the Alien". It's quite OK, has some nice pictures.

I think my all-time favourite book is "Moonage Daydream: The Life and Times of Ziggy Stardust," which has a lot of writing by Bowie illustrated by the classic Mick Rock photos...
As well as that, I've noticed (on Mick Rock's website) a lot of raving about his most recent thing: a DVD of photos which includes loads of Bowie. Might be even better than the Moonage Daydream book? There's an article about it on the BBC:

Actually, I'm thinking of ordering the Mick Rock DVD... Has anyone already seen it / read any reviews of it? It looks good, but I'd like to learn more about it.

  • The last Bowie book I bought was "Ziggy's Papers".
I also own "The Complete David Bowie" by Nicholas Pegg, "Strange fascination" by David Buckley and a few others in other languages like " Le Canzoni di David Bowie" (in Italian). I have three books in Portuguese, the titles are: "David Bowie - O Palhaço de Deus", "David Bowie - Três Décadas de Metamorfose" and "David Bowie - Rock Biografias."

    "Strange fascination fascinating me"
  • I've only got "Moonage Daydream", but I think it's great. Very entertaining and informative, and with the amazing photographs on the top of it all.

  • "Moonage Daydream" is supposed to be good.
The only biography I own is the one by George Tremlett - "Living On The Brink" .. on Amazon some people claimed it to be the best one. Tremlett knew Bowie personally and they were kinda friends so he knows many details

  • I only have Strange Fascination for the moment, and I think it's very well written.

  • Bowie books

Hes been quiet of late so the best Bowie book - has yet to come

I don't wanna see the Olympics or the golden jubilee, or the voice or Britain's got no talent - football, Eastenders, Beatles on the front covers of magazines.
Iam older - were all older! Clock DVA
