Danish preselection to Eurovision - Dansk Melodi Grand Prix

Denmark will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 and will select their entry through the national final Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2012, organised by the Danish broadcaster DR.

On 15 May 2011, one day after the 2011 Contest had been held in Germany, DR announced their participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012, to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Potential entries could be submitted until 26 September 2011 at noon. A total of 678 songs were submitted to DR. According to the rules of the competition, 9-10 songs would be selected to compete in the final; 6 songs selected in open competition among the entries submitted and 3-4 wildcard entries invited on the basis of editorial considerations.

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2012 will be held on 21 January 2012 at the Gigantium arena in Aalborg, which previously also hosted the 2006 and 2010 shows.

A line-up of 10 acts was announced on 5 January 2012. However, one of the selected finalist songs ("Nowhere" by Valen:tine) was disqualified after it was found to have broken EBU rules and was not replaced.

The winning song will be chosen in two rounds of voting. In the first round, viewers and a Danish professional jury will select the top 3 songs. The winner will then be chosen among those three songs by the viewers, the Danish jury and four international professional juries, representing Azerbaijan, Germany, Norway and Russia. In both voting rounds, the viewers' votes will equal 50 % of the total score, while jury votes will account for the rest.

On 14 January 2012, DR announced the members of the international juries:

Azerbaijan – Nigar Jamal (Jury president / singer, winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 as a part of Ell & Nikki), Eldar Gasimov (singer, winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 as a part of Ell & Nikki), Isa Melikov (composer, producer of Nigar Jamal), Dilara Kazimova (singer, ex-member of Unformal) and Aysel Teymurzadeh (singer, Azerbaijani entrant at Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with Arash)
Germany – Oceana (Jury president / singer), Rüdiger Brans (singer, lead singer of The Baseballs), Peter Bergener (journalist), Roger Cicero (singer, German entrant at Eurovision Song Contest 2007) and Mike Rötgens (producer)
Norway – Alexander Rybak (Jury president / singer, winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2009), Venke Knutson (singer), Omer Bhatti (rapper, close friend of Michael Jackson), Kjell Peter Askersrud (music professor) and Bjørn Johan Muri (singer)
Russia – Alexey Vorobyov (Jury president / singer, Russian entrant at Eurovision Song Contest 2011), Lera Masskva (singer), Yuri Madianik (musician), Anna Kulikova (singer) and Mario Durand (singer, violinist)
