A group about classical music conductors, using the tag on artist profiles for a radio station.

I chose this title for the group, because "Great Conductors" or other terms would imply a ranking or some kind of "hit parade" which is not intended. The tag overview weekly ranks the artists, albums and tracks that have been tagged this way, also showing "hyped artists" now. Other available tag pages like or do this as well. And there are more tags on Last.fm dealing with classical music conductors, you can search for them here. Nevertheless this group is meant as a place for discussions about conductors, because neither the artist nor the tag pages offer forums where you could do that.

If you would like to hear more of the rarely and/or unheard tracks in the Conductor tag radio instead of the ones you already know, you can enable Last.fm's "Discovery Mode" now with Combo.fm. Just click on this URL to listen to it in your browser, and see the thread about the Conductor tag radio for the necessary URL if you prefer to listen with the Last.fm software. Combo.fm has many more options to create interesting radio stations, e.g. combining artist and tag radios in one station. One of my favorites at the moment is my Mix Radio with enabled Discovery Mode.

By the way, the group logo is an animated GIF with several cartoons by Gerard Hoffnung who created the Hoffnung Music Festivals 1956, 1958 & 1961 at the Royal Festival Hall in London.     Danke für die Tipps, Last.fm hält für mich und meinen Musikgeschmack viele Überaschungen bereit, .spiele selber Violine und einen Dudelsack nur fehlt in meinem Alter ein wenig die Luft dazu .

    Dankeschön, es freut mich, daß es Dir auf Last.fm anscheinend gut gefällt. :-) Übrigens habe ich neulich beim Suchen ein interessantes Album gefunden: Historical Moment in Bayreuth, aufgenommen in der Stadthalle am 26. Juli 2011 im Rahmen der Festspiele mit dem Israel Chamber Orchestra unter seinem Chefdirigenten Roberto Paternostro. Sie spielten u.a. die israelische Nationalhymne, Mahlers Rückert-Lieder, Mendelssohns 4. Sinfonie und Wagners Siegfried-Idyll - eine sehr gute Idee, wie ich finde.

    Yes, it's interesting that they are not from the six top artists of the tag page either. By the way, yesterday I have found two more Bruckner albums (No. 5 and 8) with Sergiu Celibidache and the RSO Stuttgart released by Deutsche Grammophon. Hopefully they will come up in the tag radio soon. And for anyone who likes Mozart's (like me), the new tag radio with performances conducted by Furtwängler, Haitink, Barenboim, Giulini, Klemperer etc. works fine without interruptions now. :-)

    Hi Jutta, linking artists on Last.fm works with tags, so you can e.g. tag the artist profile of Salonen with or any other tag that you want to use. See the thread about the tag radio here or the Last.fm FAQ about tagging. It also makes sense to search for existing tags to choose the one that works best for you.

    Hello everyone here! Great idea to set-up such a group. Does lastfm allow to link conductors and composers. With this an MTT or Salonen could be linked with Mahler, Thielemann with Wagner, Beethoven, Pfitzner, Bruckner and Strauss, et ceterera. For contemporary classical music I suggest the conductors Peter Rundel and Alexander Liebreich as they seem to be not in the group yet. Best wishes Jutta

    I've interested in the classical music so long. But there are a lot of recordings by a lot of conductors and orchestras. It's difficult to find the best performance by oneself. I hope this group will help and lead classical music beginners like me. Thanks!
