I agree metalrayne. I think that if a song has lyrics such as these, the listener, (if they are firm believers) should'nt question, or doubt their faith. But for those who are not certain, who are not firm believers, have the right to differentiate what is 'right' or 'wrong'.

  • metalrayne

I listen to Cradle of Filth, but I am also a Christian. I do have to admit that it does have paradoxical connotations for me. However as my faith is strong I can differentiate between what I should adhere to, and what should be opposed as far as an ideological and theological stand point goes.

    September 2011
  • bigage13

Exactly. Thats what I do. But then again, from personal experience, sometimes the lyrics, (about anger towards something or just shear pissed-offness) relates to what Im feeling so I like to hear it. But its the blasphomous stuff that I tend to stay away from.

    September 2011
  • IBrokeTheOath

That's exactly how I feel. If I like the music but the lyrics go against my beliefs, I headbang to the music and ignore the lyrics.

    September 2011
  • bigage13

@Ibroketheoath, Im also a christian and I like metal. However, if the lyrics of a song that I like have something that is blasphemous and evil, i try to stay away from it due to the fact that it can have a negative influence on your beliefs. However, I agree completely that some of that music is great, but JUST the music or style is great, not the lyrics. There are some songs that are really against my beliefs but I love the music so much, i cant stop listening to them. All in all, i think if its just the good music ur after, ur ok. If ur agreeing to the lyrics, and believe the lyrics are a reality, thats when I would back away from it, other wise you might as well consider urself non-christian.

Hello everyone! I'm Diana, I'm 24 and I'm from Spain. I'm so glad that there are groups like that on Last.fm. My passion is music and I realized that God is trying to talk to me through music, He's trying that I come closer to him through music so I thought that it would be a great idea to come here and make new friends to share this, because I don't have many people to share it in my life. So feel free to add me and talk to me. Be blessed!

This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! (2 Corinthians 9:12-15)

Im starting to understand a bit more now, but I am still confused as to why Atheists/ non-christians are so interested in religion, meanings of christianity, explanations of why we believe, when the only tool we can refer to as the base of our faith is the bible. So, do you and non-christians still have a doubt that maybe what you believe in is incorrect? What im trying to ask is, do non-believers want to be proven otherwise, (to not say wrong :-) ? Or do they come to try to prove Christians wrong about their beliefs? I have visited many different christian forums, and group discussions about the bible, and there always has to be a non-believer or Atheist to contradict what the word says, which again, is ok because everyone is entitled to their own opinion/beliefs and is ok because our job as christians consists of taking the word and preaching it to the ends of the world.

the reason we don't accept "bible arguments" is the same reason you would presumably not accept "qu'ran" or "Vedas arguments". Since we don't accept the text's absolut authority, it's like me providing arguments against the existence of god based on a science fiction novel. You're right that it usually is pointless, but the discussions rarely start on the base of the bible's authority; normally they just end there

    April 2011
  • bigage13

I guess this was just a stale mate. I accept that i cannot prove someone wrong by using the bible, the same way they cannot tell me that the bible is wrong. Its not stupid to ask for proof. But, why do Atheists and "non christians" discuss christianity and when a christian confronts them with the Bible they just simply wont accept it due to the "system of belief"? Thats what im getting to. Its a never-ending cycle. We'll provide an answer we believe true, but they will not accept because they are atheist or non-believers. So what is the reason behind these discussions besides the mere enjoyment of bashing religion? Yes of course, everyone is entitled to think or believe whatever they want. BUT, as i wrote this i realized, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" (Ephesians 6:12) so its not the people we are discussing against.

    April 2011
  • VampyreAngel

Um, you just said that it's stupid to ask for proof. I accept that in the sense that faith is a system of belief quite devoid of proof or its necessity. But you can't then demand for someone to be ready to be "proven wrong" by the bible when you don't accept proof that proves the bible wrong! Also, no need to waste your time, but the fact is that there never is any real discussion in this group except between atheists and christians. Also, there are no people who "supposedly are christian, but...". Those you see making "stupid" discussions are simply non-christian.

God gave us an example of how to love. Jesus loved everyone despite what was being done to him. As a christian, it is in my nature to love anyone, despite of what they believe in, so yes. We do love u. However, this was supposedly a christian group. Since the beginning of when this group was made, all you see is the entire group consisting of people who supposedly are christian, yet their discussions consist of how not to believe in the Lord, blasphemous comments, etc. The fact of the matter is, if we do not have living proof that anything bible-related occured, then you simply dont believe in it. But the bible is our guidance in life. So, if we have faith that God does exist, and the what the bible says its true, how will an Atheist accept the fact that there is a God??? Never! Because they will resort to, "How can u prove it" way of thinking. Thats what i referred to as "stupid discussion". Unless an atheist in ready to get proven wrong by the bible, we cant waste our time!

It is trully ridiculous. The most ridiculous parts are 1. how you say "why do you discuss your stupid philosophies blah blah [...], stupid discussions, blah," and then end up with "we love you". 2. also, "why / how dare you come in here and discuss things and doubt god", which, combined with "our job is to convert" makes for a nice 2/2 in the it's-only-ok-if-I-do-it category of hypocrisy

    April 2011
  • bigage13

This is ridiculous. I completely regret even looking thru this and seeing how people are sucked into these "discussions". If you are atheist, why do you need to come to a 'supposed' christian based forum to discuss your stupid philosophies, and doubts that there is a true God?? If you dont believe, suit yourself!! Our job as Christians, and not just people who know bible verses or people who call themselves christians, is to save humanity as the bible tells us to do. If you dont want to be saved, THATS ALL YOU!! The true of the matter is, God is coming soon and you can see all the signs in the book of Revelation.Stop this stupid, useless, "open discussion" crap and just give your life to the Lord, because with Atheists, you will never win. Its always an neverending cycle. Its called faith, and if you dont have any interest in it, or dont want any part of it, then suit yourself and get lost. By the way, we love you in the Lord. Give ur life to Christ. Stop discussing, start converting

Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become “fools” so that you may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness”; and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.” (1 Corinthians 3:18-20)
