Favorite Mehldau album

  • Favorite Mehldau album

What's your favorite? I just bought Chris Potter's Moving In album today, with Mehldau on piano, Larry Grenadier on bass, and Billy Hart on drums. I love Chris Potter's music, so it makes me love Mehldau's performance on this album even more.

Besides that, I just got the new Day Is Done album also, and I have to say it's great. The shift to the new drummer, Jeff Ballard, is a nice change from Jorge Rossy.

    the places

my fave album is surely "the places". each city has a soul and its own music, a theme... i feel like i'm travelling when i listen to it.

    Moving in

great album! potter and mehldau really soung well together. not to mention larry.

my favorite album of his is actually a bootleg. you can hear this concert on-line i beleve. the show in bimhuis, in amsterdam (back in 2004, with jorge)- is amazing. really.

an album i like? "live in tokyo". a trio recording i like the most is "art of the trio, vol. 4". "all the things you are" and "solar" are very soulful.

  • Hmm

Probably Art of the Trio 4: Back at the Vanguard and Live in Tokyo

  • Just got Art of the Trio, Vol. 1. I love it, and listening to "I Didn't Know What Time It Was" was the first time I've heard Jorge Rossy take a drum solo :)

I still have many records to discover...

... but with my poor knowledge of brad Mehldau's works I'd say that Back at the Vanguard is ma favorite (it's also the first I discovered in my early teenage. And indeed, All The Things You Are is maybe the best jazz track I've ever listened to!

  • A tough one...

There isn't a single album I own I do not like a lot... but "Places" and "Elegiac Cycle" do stand out a bit more. Day is Done is also great. really like classical composers like Prokofiev, Ravel, etc, Elegiac Cycle is a fantastic "neo-classical" album, I really feel like clapping when I finish listening some tracks :-)))

  • Day is done is definately my favourite. I'm planning on investing in House On Hill asap, so we'll have to see how good that new one is.

Best Mehldau albums (my opinon, of course):
    -Art of the Trio 4
    -Art of the Trio 5
    -Anything Goes
    -Live: Bimhuis Amsterdam

Best Mehldau tracks (again, only my opinion):
-"All The Things You Are" off "Art of the Trio 4"
-"Anthropology" off Jorge Rossy's album "When I Fall In Love"
-"Exit Music" off "Art of the Trio 4"
    -"When It Rains" off Largo

  • I just love them all!!! - but I have an important question: balachka - you mentioned the Live at the bimhuis Amsterdam Album - I had it once (downloaded) and lost it with a computer crash :-(
I already wrote mails to some agencies in Netherlands but nobody could give me an answer how to get the album again......
Can you help me? - The Bimhuis record is just great (Think it was on the "anything goes"-tour).

My Favorite Album for today: Live:Bimhuis Amsterdam

+ Iam not always in the mood to hear it but: elegiac cycle is just a PHENOMENAL ALBUM - one "style", one "mood" from begining to the end without getting boring at all !!

  • till now coz i think that i don't know enough of brad's music i'm trying to get all I can
but till now my favorit album is 1) Elegiac cycle
followed by 2) live at the village vanguard
and then 3)art of the trio 5 progression
my favorite tracks are 1- paranoid android
    2- goodbye storyteller
3- resignation ( elegiac cycle version)

Tell me what music you listen to and I'll tell you who you are...
  • Favorite Brad Mehldau Albums

I recently picked up New York- Barcelona Crossing 2 New York-Barcelona Crossing 2 but havent had time to give it a thorough listen yet. My favorite album is Day is Done, which is a classic on par with Bill Evans in my opinion and I can't get enough of it. I also like the Metheny Mehldau Quartet album.

Any one else digging on Jackie Terrasson's albums A Paris, and Smile?

  • Live in Tokyo is definately the one for me: 70 minutes of Brad Mehldau on his own - beautiful solo's and just marvelous interpretations of already fantastic songs. Especially Paranoid Android ranks high. So much expression, and emotion laid down in twenty minutes of pure ecstasy, it is one of the best songs I've ever heard!

    You shoot before you know
Who's in your line of fire
    - Kings of Convenience
  • The One I'm Listening To

But if I had to pick one of them, I suppose I'd say Day Is Done
