Borlänge är en tätort (stad) i Dalarna samt centralort i Borlänge kommun, Dalarnas län.
Borlänge, som ligger vid Dalälven 18 km sydväst om Falun, är Dalarnas största stad och dess viktigaste industri- och handelsort. Traditionellt sett har den karaktäriserats som en utpräglad industristad med främst stål- och pappersindustri. Denna är idag främst dominerad av SSAB Tunnplåt Borlänge och Stora Enso Kvarnsveden. Under de senare årtiondena har industridominansen emellertid minskat, och idag har Borlänge även em väl utbyggd privat och offentlig tjänstesektor. Bland annat finns här centrumet för länets parti- och detaljhandel samt landsvägs-, järnvägs- och flygtransporter. Både Vägverket och Banverket har sina huvudkontor förlagda till Borlänge. På senare år har stora satsningar gjorts från såväl kommunens som det privata näringslivets sida i syfte att utveckla och profiliera Borlänge till mäss- och konferensstad. Som en viktig del i detta arbete har köpcentrumet Kupolen uppförts. Strax söder om tätorten ligger flygplatsen Dala Airport.
I Borlänge finns finns de delar av Högskolan Dalarna med inriktning på teknisk, administrativ, ekonomisk och social utbildning. I Borlänge finns även det enda äventyrsbadet med tre rutschkanor i Sverige.
Ortnamnet (i Borlængio 1390) innehåller förledet bor 'vägsträcka där man måste bära (båtar och) last', i senare leden ordet länga syftande på en vägsträcka. 'Den långa vägen på boren' skulle kunna ha avsett vägsträckan från Mjälga till Båtsta.

Borlänge Municipality is a Swedish municipality in Dalarna County, in central Sweden, with an area of 586.4 km². The municipality has a population of 47,206; of these, around 40,000 live in the town Borlänge, which is the seat of the municipality and located at 60°29′N 15°27′E.
Modern Borlänge emerged in the former muncipality of Stora Tuna during the last few decades of the 19th century when the railway and the industries reached the district. Originally Borlänge had been the name of a tiny village and the first noted information regarding Borlänge is from 1390. The village were insignificant up until 1870. In 1875 the railway between Falun and Ludvika, via Borlänge were inaugurated and at the same time the construction of Domnarfvets Jernverk, the ironworks of neighbouring village Domnarvet, had started. Thanks to the railway station the village of Borlänge became of high service importance to the ironworks.
In 1891 Borlänge parted from the Stora Tuna muncipality och in 1898 Borlänge became a town in its own right, "köping", with 1 300 inhabitants. But, up until this day Borlänge still belong to the parish of Stora Tuna. In circa 1900 Stora Kopparbergs Bergslag, the owners of the ironworks in Domnarvet, built a papermill in the contiguous village of Kvarnsveden.
In 1944 the City of Borlänge of Borlänge received its Royal charter after the market town of Borlänge emerged with the industrial towns of Domnarvet and Kvarnsveden. In 1971 the muncipality of Borlänge were establish when the municipality of Stora Tuna emerged with the City of Borlänge.
During all of the 20th century Borlänge has been an typical industrial city with a relatively good economic growth, but today the service industry is spreading.
