Favorite Performing artists' of Baroque music!

I recommend: Jean-Pierre Rampal (7 January 1922 – 20 May 2000) was a celebrated French flautist. He has been personally "credited with returning to the flute the popularity as a solo classical instrument it had not held since the 18th century. He will be remembered principally for creating a popular fashion for the flute in the post-war years, and for his recovery of a vast number of flute compositions from the Baroque era.

the human voice countertenor but not only

For me the Baroque starts with the human voice:
the unbelievable Phillipe Jarousky with his divine baroque voice
    Alfred Deller
Rogers Covey-Crump,that is more modern sweeter English Baroque voice than Deller and Bowman IMHO
and for instruments: Yehudi Menuhim, Clara Haskel, Christian Ferras, David Oystrach, Arras, even Bach Guild...interpreters that bring a new approach sometimes because the baroque may become so formalist and so ornamental, without a soul

"Music, feelings of happiness, mythology, faces worn by time, certain twilights and certain places, want to tell us something, or they told us something that we should not have missed, or they are about to tell us something; this imminence of a revelation that is not produced is, perhaps, the esthetic event."

If you're going to talk about the divinity of the human voice in the Baroque cannon, HOW can you fail to mention Andreas Scholl? His rendition of Ombra mai fu from Händel's Xerxes gives me gooseflesh every time. And I have a fantastic CD of his: a collection of German Baroque Songs (Deutsche Barocklieder) that is a joy to listen to every time.

Leaving voice aside, I'm particularly fond of recordings by Christopher Hogwood and the Academy of Ancient Music.

  • The label Alia Vox sports the great preformers Jordi Savall and Montserrat Figueras as well as their ensembles: Hesperion XXI, La Capella Reial de Catalunya and Le Concert des Nations.

I would like to bring your attention to recent works of Marco Beasley-his voice is wonderful and he is cheerful guy too! He specialises on Italian Reneissance and Baroque Musisc, especially cantatas. He is widely collaborating L Arpeggiata and other musical bodies.
His performances are great fun each time- I have seen him on Tages der Altes Musik in Regensburg a few months ago and I must admit it was wonderful.Between the songs he has been explaining the origins of each of the cantatas...

Concenring his work, I propose everyone the album La Bella Noeva-for example Amante felice is something so joyful and supertemporal that its breath taking!

Jordi Savall, Trevor Pinnock and I really find Emmanuel Ceysson quite impressive with performing Scarlatti's Harpsichord sonatas with Harp. Very emotional.

  • Le Poème Harmonique are a very good ensemble. They have two DVDS out of Jean Baptiste Lully theater works

Ton Koopman is a genius on the harpsichord and organ as well as in his role as conductor. The same for his student, Masaaki Suzuki and that guy’s work with Bach Collegium Japan.

Andreas Scholl (countertenor), Emma Kirkby (soprano) and Gerd Türk (tenor) are excellent singers of the Baroque repertoire.

I have to second Philippe Jaroussky, simply because I can't recommend him enough. He has a clearness and quality to his voice that I still havent't found in any other countertenor, and he gives me chills constantly.
