what's your BOINC CPU usage percentage?

    Hi,
I am new user to BOINC, and more generally, to "volunteer and desktop grid computing".
I'm a BOINC user for about 5 days now, and i was just curious to know:

at what percentage do you keep your CPU usage in average?

I keep mine at 30% most of the time, so i don't have any noticeable disturb while in parallel, using the computer in it's normal.

  • Welcome to the group and to BOINC!
I keep my CPU usage for BOINC at 100% and there´s no disturb of BOINC too... ;-)

I allow Boinc to use 100%, but because of the fact that the computer I use for it is the machine I work on, it gets about 75% of CPU time on average.

I used to have BOINC set for 100% but I had an issue with my computer doing too many things and got a nasty "beep" that pretty well told me to cease and desist. Since then, I've lowered CPU usage to 90% and haven't had any problems since. Another note is that I'm a big fan of the MMORPG City Of Heroes, so when I'm playing that I shut off BOINC. If I didn't then playing my MMORPG would be like watching a slide show.

  • 50%

I hear ya there. Except with me it's World of Warcraft.

I should mention that my computer is pretty much a hunk of crap.

I'm actually not sure what I have my BOINC set to. ^_^ What's the default again?

It's food nouveau... the shape of love.

100% on a pair of older machines.

I had mine at 100%, but I could hear my laptop fan spinning non-stop, so I've been lowering it. I'm at 50% now. I guess anything helps, right?

  • Sure... Every little CPU cycle helps! ;-) But with a Laptop Iwould recommend one of those Laptop coolers with built in fans to cool it down. I use one of them for my MacBook and let it run on 100% CPU without problems...

I see your CPID problem seems to be solved, because now your sig shows MalariaControl...

Yep, it's all working properly now, just took about 24 hours for the CPID to work. Now my seti@home is listen as an "inactive project" which, I'm guessing, is because the RAC is 0.01?

I'll look into the laptop cooler, thanks for the tip.

  • Yep, you're right - all projects with a RAC < 1 are shown as inactive projects in the sig...

  • CPU-Throttling by temparatur?

I would rather couple CPU to the temperature than to the time. Does someone know software of this kind? CPU-throttling by temperature.

Try a free program called TThrottle. I use it on my quad-core AMD running 100% on all cores and my temps never go above 47.

    100% CPU + 100% GPU + RAM ;)

Have a nice day, devil !!!!!!!!!!!
  • 100% 24/365 ;-)
