As someone suggested previously, the tag window should be in a tab. Not only would it be neater, but it would always be available instead of having to bring it up each time.

For those of you using one of the plugins, can you still listen to radio though your external player?

Looks great. Personally, I kinda dislike the fact the Winamp-plugin reports to the last.fm-client now, instead of directly to the server.
I kinda liked the stand-alone plugin, although things can be said bout this approach.
Would have been nice if clicking 'Configure selected plugin' in Winamp would give a popup with some basic info, instead of nothing at all :P

I've encountered the same problem girlwithadotcom had. Clicking an artist-name in the client opens a browser-window of a totally different artist, while clicking on any other highlighted text leads to nothing but a sore wrist.

Wat sas as dös was kaans
  • Yummy!

Just listened to two tracks, but my goodness does it look sweet! I am soooo blogging about this on My Space.

I read it before I posted and didn't see those things in there, so possibly his post was edited.

Again I'll say this player is vastly improved and well executed.

I have stumbled upon a few inconsistencies and a one-time (so far) glitch I'll report.

    • Clicking Artist/Track/Album from the Now Playing tab is pot-luck. You may get the correct page, you may get a previously played artist, or nothing?

    • Are the similar artist 'links' there just to look pretty? They alter when hovered but don't appear to have an affect when clicked, double-clicked nor right-clicked?

    • I've been streaming Recommended happily off and on for a few hours today.

I have restarted the player a few of times.
Mostly to recover wasted memory. We've got a bit of a leak here. Launcing the app starts off with (IIRC) about ~13+meg real and ~7meg VM.
Each successive track increases both, especially the VM. The last time I made note of it, the two were just over 47meg combined!

    • As has been mentioned elsewhere, grabbing the side of the window, or the sidebar divider to drag will cause skips and occassionaly drop the stream. It's related to how much proccessor suddenly is used by the GUI function of LastFM.exe

    • Just minutes ago a stream was playing quite nicely when suddenly it sounded as though we'd entered a cave, and beats began to have a weird squeaky sound such as I'd never heard.
Not being familiar with the track, I at first attributed this to the artist use of synth, but it grew worse. To the point I banned the track.

The next track, by a different artist sounded exactly as the last on had.

After skipping two or three, I launched a recording session and recorded a few minutes of skipping through half a dozen tracks where some sound worse than others.

Stopping and restarting the stream had no affect nor did changing stations. The player had to be stopped and restarted.

If it helps, I can upload or send to someone the recording and/or the webservice.log from where this occured?

    • In closing, being able to stream as much with the LastFM player as I have today (due it's not dropping stream nearly as much as the old player) I'm again reminded how badly some levelization needs to be performed on the LastFM tracks!

    • @#$* computers. The other one must have heard me typing this and wouldn't you know it, the stream just dropped.
      Buffer empty! Rebuffering (0) !@^%&*@

    Recommendation Radio

Dunno if it would be easy codewise, but...
When playting recommendation radio, would it be possible to see on the info line, insted of "playing recommendation radio", the relly relevant info ("Recommended by XX group" / "Last.FM Profile recommendation" etc)? This seems something one would like to know directly from the player, if it already queries all this questionably-relevant info.

No no no, you did not understand me. I mean using non-administrative WINDOWS account. I'm amazingly surprised nobody's encoutered this problem yet - are all of you using only admin-privileged accounts?

I can repeat, that I've already performed installation and configuration using admin account, but when switching to my usual one, I can't start the last.fm app. I've to "run [it] as..." administrator, and then start my player.

I think it's so obvious bug it should be fixed ASAP ;-).

  • Does tag work for non-subscribers? I tried tagging some Carcass under some new tags that I don't have yet (grindcore, goregrind) but the new tags weren't created, also, when I tagged it under "death metal", a tag I already had, when I tagged a new artist (Necrophagist), Carcass was removed from that tagset.

Edit: Never mind, just had to retag.

Actually, at least one other user has since I posted this same (potential) work-around earlier tonight for the interim. That is until the programmers wake, have their coffee and get back to doing what they do so well.

After installing under admin account, log in as user and install again.

I've had to do this with so many business apps for my clients it's not even funny. It stems from permissions being applied to current user only and not being applied across all users, and oft time as well the appropriate and necessary files not being written during install where they'll be available to each user eg. in Documents and Settings/%username%/etc.

Installing while logged in to an admin account FIRST, then installing again as your %username% should do the trick.

Not submitting last track played in stream

I was just listening to my Recommendation Radio. The last track I played was take me to the castle (not that it matters, but I kinda liked it). I marked it as "loved", let the song play through to the end, waited for the 2 seconds of the next son then pressed STOP.

The track was not submitted. Honest.
    :(

EDIT: strike that. I just played a track from VU Player (which submits directly without the app, mind you). Funnily enough, when the 2nd track started playing - both were submitted.
(As per a previously stated bug, the new app's sidebar registered neither as "recently played").

    Thoughts?

Could I please ask everyone to start a new thread for reporting a specific issue. It's difficult to keep track of them if they're all buried within this multi-page thread. Specific bug or bugs you want to report = specific thread.

Therefore I'm going to lock this thread now. I will copy a few of the last posts to separate new threads and relpy there.

    Thanks.
