Hello to new members and hopefully new music

When I discovered Boards of Canada a few years ago I definitely had some of them nice shivers running down my spine. Though Finding similar music seemed hard and I stopped looking after a while. Few years later though, I discovered Tycho and the goose flesh returned. I figured there could be more of the same music out there but again I looked without any luck.
Then yesterday... AGAIN! I discovered some similar shit, this time Landou was responsible for some massive goose flesh. Incredible music, but well again I'm not really finding similar artists easily.
So who can help find more of this music?

I've loved Boards of Canada for ages, and I'd been searching for similar artists just to get a new sound, because after listening to them on repeat for years, they do get quite boring (but still great). Recently I found Tycho, which was great, I thought I'd never find anybody as good as BOC, but this guy has some great sounds.

I don't know about sub-genres, but I've been listening to Tycho's similar artists on the last.fm radio, and it's been producing some great stuff, that I've started tagging as Artificial Lounge.

nice to get some first responses, on the shoutbox aswell:) Third project is really sticking around:D cool man, Especially the tagging is important! 'cause soon we'll be able to play artificial lounge radio. Try playing Landau’s similar radio aswell, i'm trying it right now and the results are great.

Machine Drum and Novel 23 are my recommendations for now.

I was looking for some documentaries by the National Film Board of Canada to hear the music that inspired BOC. I was actually looking for the artists who made the original music but these artists are hard to find. Anyway here's a documentary I found. Great ambience :D...

    Music by Dan Driscoll

Boards of Canada haven't released anything since Trans Canada Highway have they? does anyone know when to expect new material?

  • I've been into this genre for quite a while now, and here are my favorite artists.

First off, if you like Tycho, definitely try Ulrich Schnauss. He really has a style of its own and everytime I'm playing his music, something's special is going on inside me wich I can't really describe.

If you like nice mellow melodies, try artists like Ochre (start off by listening to this[/track]Sticklebrick Symphony if you haven't. Try some Kettel, Gimmik, Abfahrt Hinwil...they are my favorite when it comes to downtempo IDM.

And finally, not really in this genre but definitely my favorite artist (by a mile), The Flashbulb. He's got pretty much all the styles of electronic music, and I'd say try his latest album, wich is quite cinematic: Soundtrack to a Vacant Life. The artist made it available for download and suggested to donate if you liked it. The idea came up pretty good...

Anyway, hit me up if you liked any of those names!

It's on the edge, but I'd still call Manual artificial lounge. I know his younger brother personally and got into the music that way. Anyway, you should really go hear it:)

I recommend Midwest Product. they're pretty much electro indie pop, with the occasional vocals, but I found it pretty similar to Tycho in the way the melodies work together like clockwork.

Try MONOPOLE, maybe a bit loser than what you are after, but give it a try. :)

Also, there are lots of great things from Archaic Horizon net label, if you don't know them yet go to their site and start listening, all free of course.
I think most of that stuff would fit here, mostly Electricwest and Sarin Sunday, but it's almost all good stuff.

Oh and Hi of course. :D

    Christ.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Christ., he's a Scottish solo ambient producer called Christopher Horne who was a part of Boards of Canada until just after Twoism was released in 95.

Start with his LP Blue Shift Emissions, Especially Happyfour Twenty, Blue Shifty Missions and Vernor Vinge, i promise you will not be disappointed

    Enjoy

Silben - I checked the manufactured landscapes link, very nice, the topic discussed is brilliant to give you that slightly fearful mind frame which propels the mind to a deep state of concious.

Bajamar - Ulrich schnauss has some great features also, sounds a bit like U2 meets pet shop boys though, but i really enjoyed the video and melodies. Can you suggest anything else by him thats more chilled?

" " - Checking Holler Wild Rose now, i love shoegaze ^^ have you checked out Slowdive's Soulvaki?

qiUip - Hi /wave .. Just turned monopole on, the synths and seagulls just drifted in... sounds good, its got a nice hypnotic kind of effect, so highfive man :]

Will be checking back, keep em coming

  • Hey everyone I'm Etienne. I'm 16 and I'm from Canada.
When I first heard BoC it was literally as if I rediscovered music. Since then I investigated IDM and its surroundings. I love different genres, but it's always good to come back to relaxing downtempo music.

Casino versus Japan one of the best out there.

I also have a project that is somewhat similar Night Shift

Listen to Progress or Subtle Shapes

  • As far as BoC goes, I was rather dissapointed with there last album. I loved the dark subtalness of geogaddi, and the campfire headphase went away from that. BoC was one of the first bands i found so they have a huge influence on me. The biggest being my love for ambient droning sounds.

I did not find many artists similar to BoC, and the ones I found that were somewhat like them (Aphex Twin, Autechre) but were very hit and miss, so I basiclly stop looking into that genre for a long time. I subsequentlly discovered my love for trip-hop.

I still hold other bases close to heart. It was not until recentlly that I found several seed artists (an artist in a particular genre that lets me branch off and find tons of new music), such as Leila, that have allowed me to discover some really amazing music. The one that currentlly stands out the most is my mind is Seefeel, who I found a few days ago.

greetings. here are some recomendations of music that i feel would fit the nature of the group. And they are all available on free downloads. Sadly, many of these recomendations are not available on vinyl :(
Modul download free (and legal) from http://phonocake.org/artists.php?Name=Modul&incode=38&language_code=2 if you search around you will find other free downloads by them. although you'll have to pay for their latest album 'Dots' but its well worth the bunts.
Acidrain download free (and Legal) from http://www.stadtgruenlabel.net/ i would also recomend Martin Donath from this net label. more tech house than ambient but lovely all the same.

    hello from cologne

Hey Artificial Lounge Addicts If you like ambient, downtempo music simply consider one of the following rec72 netlabel artists like akustikfilm, BitBasic, Deef, Kid Caustic or Paco Alvarez in one of your next shows.
Would be great to hear those acts all over the place!
    Cheers from Cologne.

Don't think Gramm was tagged yet, check it out, great stuff!
I don't normally tag things and I'm not too active on last fm, so if it's right for you guys do tag it, imo will sound right in artificial lounge radio.

  • similar to BoC
