Artcore as a kind of Post-Metal

Термин Artcore был введён музыкальным критиком Андреем Кугаевским в 2001 году. Согласно современной иерархии, Artcore является поджанром Post-Metal. В отличие от чистого Post-Metal, который представляет собой утяжелённый Post-Rock, Artcore является прямой смесью Sludge и Post-Rock. В чистом Post-Metal, как правило, используется чистый вокал, либо вокала нет совсем, а также отсутствует составляющая Hardcore (например, Ninth Moon Black, Exilym, A Swarm of the Sun и др.). В Artcore основной вокал - скриминг и\или гроулинг, а если вокал отсутствует, то обязательно присутствуют составляющие Hardcore. Таким образом, термин Artcore не является синонимом Post-Metal, а является его поджанром.
В начале 2000-х годов некоторые группы (такие как, например, Neurosis и Isis), в основном, из США, игравшие на тот момент Sludge, начали уже активно привносить элементы Post-Rock в свою музыку. Такую музыку обычным Sludge уже нельзя было назвать, для чего и появился термин Artcore (Sludge + Post-Rock). В дальнейшем многие группы, играющие Sludge, начали играть Artcore (яркие примеры - Cult Of Luna и Callisto). Практически одновременно с развитием данного явления группы, играющие инструментальный Sludge, начали отходить от использования хардкорных фишек в своей музыке и привносить в неё элементы Post-Rock (яркий пример - Pelican), а некоторые группы, игравшие Post-Rock, стали утяжелять звучание, дополняя его дисторшном и "мясистостью". Данное явление получило название Post-Metal, к которому в настоящее время относят такие жанры как, например, Artcore, Drone metal и даже Sludge (который по сути своей является смесью Doom Metal и Hardcore), от которого ушло большинство музыкантов в пользу Artcore. К концу первого дясетилетия нового века некоторые группы, ранее игравшие Artcore, начали постепенно уменьшать количество Hardcore фишек и углубляться в чистый Post-Metal (например, Callisto).

The term Artcore has been entered by musical critic Andrey Kugaevsky in 2001. Artcore is a subgenre of Post-Metal according to modern hierarchy. Artcore is a direct mix of Sludge and Post-Rock unlike the pure Post-Metal which represents a more hard Post-Rock. The the pure vocal is used in pure Post-Metal and if the vocal isn't present absolutely also there are no components of Hardcore (for example, Ninth Moon Black, Exilym, A Swarm of the Sun, etc.). In Artcore the basic vocals are screaming and\or growling and if the vocal isn't present there are components of Hardcore. The term Artcore isn't synonym of Post-Metal and it's his subgenre.
In the beginning of the 2000s some groups (such as, for example, Neurosis and Isis) basically from the USA recently played Sludge have started to introduce actively elements of Post-Rock in their music. Such music already couldn't be named as Sludge and the term Artcore (Sludge + Post-Rock) was born. Further many groups played Sludge have started to play Artcore (vivid examples are Cult Of Luna and Callisto). Practically simultaneously with progress of this phenomenon the groups played Instrumental Sludge have started to depart from use Hardcore features in their music and to introduce the elements of Post-Rock in it (a vivid example is Pelican) and some groups played Post-Rock began to make heavier their sounding supplementing it by distortion and "succulence". This phenomenon was named as Post-Metal which now include, for example, Artcore, Drone metal and even Sludge (which inherently is a mix of Doom Metal and Hardcore) from which the majority of musicians in favor of Artcore has left. At the ending of first decade of new century some groups played Artcore have started to reduce gradually Hardcore features and to go deep in pure Post-Metal (for example, Callisto).
