Let's take a close look at what it is, and how is should be cooked. During the 90's of the last century (sounds global, huh?), some similar tendencies have been appearing in various genres of extreme music — and in particular, these tendencies involved using musical elements of genres which were at one time considered alien to metal, and/or punk. Despite the fact that this is true for almost all genres, we're now interested in how these tendencies have influenced what is now called hardcore in America. In point of fact, even in the early nineties, developing hardcore (as it was) "internally" was almost an unrealstic prospect. The bands like Today Is The Day, Zeni Geva and Neurosis ("the holy trinity" of art-core) had to expand the boundaries of hardcore by using musical elements which were previously considered alien. This led to the huge hardcore boom which still exists today, which has resulted in hardcore actually turning into metalcore, i.e., into an almost indeconstructable crossover of hardcore punk and metal. However, crossing hardcore with metal wasn't the only thing that happened — hardcore was also crossed with jazz, rap, industrial, sludge, stoner, ethnic music, ambient... in sum, everything that musicians found necessary was blended with hardcore, and the nightmare of music critics was born...

Поподробнее остановимся на том, что это такое и как это надо готовить. В девяностых годах прошлого века (звучит глобально, а?) в различных направлениях экстремальной музыки стали появляться похожие тенденции использования музыкальных элементов жанров, ранее считающихся чуждыми металлу и/или панку. Несмотря на то, что вышенаписанное верно для практически всех стилей, сейчас нас интересует то, как эти тенденции повлияли на то, что в Америке сейчас называют хардкором. По сути, уже в начале девяностых развивать вглубь хардкор в том виде, в каком он существовал, было практически нереально. Группам типа Today Is The Day, Zeni Geva, Neurosis ("святая троица" арт-кора) пришлось расширять границы хардкора путём использования музыкальных элементов, ранее ему чуждых. Это привело к продолжающемуся до сих пор настоящему буму хардкора, в результате которого хардкор по сути превратился в металкор, т.е., практически не поддающуюся деконструкции смесь хардкор-панка и металла. Однако, одним скрещиванием с металлом дело не ограничилось — в дело пошёл джаз, рэп, индастриал, сладж, стоунер, этническая музыка, эмбиент, в общем, всё, что музыканты посчитают нужным, и образовался ночной кошмар музыкальных критиков — арт-кор, эклектичный стиль современной рок-музыки, базирующийся на металкоре и развивающий его вширь с помощью "инородных" элементов, взятых из других жанров и стилей музыки (попробуйте-ка опишите это в двух словах!).
