  In my opinion traditional cultural music is better of under the "ethnic" tag. The term "world music" could than perfectly be used for all inter-cultural musical exchanges.

  I agree with the fact that the way all non-western music is subsumed under "world music" is discriminatory. As a weird side effect western traditional music is not coined "world" but "folk". Literally the term "world music" means something like "all music made on earth", in which case the term is futile because it includes everyone, except for some lone musician at the international space station...

  i am not against the putumayo label but i dont like the cultural centrism and culturual imperialism which is transported with terms like "world music" thank you besto for this group

  We are anti putamayo type world music cuz it blows. But considering your top artist is Evanescence, I really doubt you will understand what bad music is, much less bad "world" music.
