You're stupid. HipHop has it's own sound, not everyone can do what a lot of great hiphop-artists did - just tell a non-hiphop-artist to make a good rap-song... in 99% it will be wack!!
Don't lie... you gotta have talent to make a good rap-song!

And you don't need to play an instrument to make good music. Rap was always a way to put lyrical creativity out - in the first way - and you could rap over any instrumental... sampled or just clapping with your hands on wood...

And btw: There are a lot hiphop-musicians today that play instruments

And no, when you can play an instrument... you're not a good musician automatically...

HipHop: The musician makes the music... the rapper/mc is making a song from it... that's hiphop, you hating dumbass ;-)

  • First of all here's a stack of Kudos for AJulians reply in the first page of this thread:

    o
    oo
    ooo
    oooo
    ooooo
    oooooo
    ooooooo
    oooooooo
    ooooooooo
    oooooooooo

True words there, well placed, on point, very accurate in ways of delivery. That's how haters are to be confronted. Like Louis Logic says "Logic and Reason"!

That post also has pretty much everything in it I wanted to say about the topic. Rap is not bad music, rappers are not bad people. The only thing thats going wrong is the delivery in the media. I mean, think back to the days of "YO! MTV Raps". I can only quote Chris Rock on this and say "In the old days it was easy to defend rap music on an intellectual level!". Back in the days it was Run DMC, BDP, Whodini, Big Daddy Kane. Those guys had something to say. They made people open their minds on something!

What do we have today? OK, we had the whole 50 Cent thing...while I gotta admit "Get rich or die trying" was a kickass album, I must say I really dont like 50 Cent! Weak lyrics, no topics at all (for real! Candy Shop? WTF?). He stepped in the center of attention with a big bang and then...turned below average. Next thing. What in the bloody hell is Crunk? Lil' John? For real, when did he drop outta school? What more do people remember of Lil' John than "WHAT?!" "YEAH!" and "OKAAAY!" ???? Myself....nothing!

I always said that people who hate rap actually just hate the fact that a genre of music thats dominated by black people is actually selling more records than their oh so precious unwashed, never visiting a barber shop, tight-panted headbanging guitar-rapists. Sorry, there really is some kind of racism in that.

Despites that, I still love Hiphop and nobody can do anything about that!

    Peace

  • It's hated because most haters belong to scenes in that(mostly, not everyone) Hip-Hop is hated. In fact, most of this people don't even know a fuck about their own genres. Most of them just listen to stuff to belong to that scenes. Most of this people don't even know about really good Hip-Hop(Stones Throw-music, for example).I bet, even many of us didn't know much of the good artists, when we started to listen to this genre. Another problem is, that many of them had trouble with "fake-listeners"(for example: in Germany, lots of Hip-Hop listeners are criminal teens who beat people only in crowds(srsly) and do shit all the time) So this kind of Hip-Hop-people scare people away from this kind of music. I had a friend who's emo(we're not longer friends because he said dumb shit and stuff). I showed him some tracks from Doom and Del. Then he changed his mind about the genre a little bit(today he don't listen to this stuff anymore because he is angry with me xD). If more people would care about real music, there would be less hate or something.

The sad thing about this "war" is, that it's nearly impossible to discuss with the "enemies". But it's worth a try, aren't it?

I just want to say, mr. headbanger whatever guy that commented on this thread a while ago talking about turntables not being instruments... I took a look at some of your top artists. Lots of trip-hop. You can't tell me you think synthesizers are musical instruments while turntables aren't. And I promise you, both massive attack and aphex twin have both used turntables and liked them, you know why? because they DO have musical backgrounds, and people with real musical backgrounds appreciate all genres. Hip hop, metal, you name it. Also, will you do me a favor mister headbanger metalhead. Have a listen to some of the users in this groups top artists. If you still feel the same way, then great you win (in your own little screwed up world) but maybe at least then you won't go "invading" groups and spreading hate in an otherwise peaceful group of individuals. That's like, a complete KKK thing to do, bro.

Give way to the offbeat dance 'til the city and the concrete cracks.

hip hop is hatted for the following reasons:
the rap is a commercial music: so how about the underground rap?
the rapers aren't inteligent: bulshit the inteligent rapers exicsts. let's try to search.
rap music use the samples: so what about techno or dance that the hip hop haters listens?

  • Sampling isn't even just using someones sound, as most of these ignorant fools say, it's creating something creative and new with it(The sample DOOM used for the tracks Fastlane, for example).

    AJulians basically answered it all....

Turntables are fundamental in hip-hop. They represent true essence of hip-hop imo.

As for why hip-hop is hated i think everyone has basically covered the MAIN reason's why it's hated. Around where I used to live many people dismissed hip-hop as if it didn't exist. So did many of my classmates. When we discussed this kind of topic at school, many people thought hip-hop only reinforced drug use, violence, and sex. Also most of the girls in my class had expressed how some of the rappers (e. g. 50 cent, lil wayne) scared them. Most of the class was again hip-hop while i sat alone trying to explain how wonderful hip-hop truly can be. There are soo many good rappers, DJ's, beatmakers, and groups out there that make's hip-hop truly beautiful.

Because people are influenced by the mainstream (MTV, BET, VH1 ect.) they don't bother looking deeper into something that they believe is ruining society. Hip-hop is like an anti-hero. At first it seems bad, real bad, but in actuality it's not. Stop looking on the surface and dig deeper, you might find gold...

Turntables? I think you are mixing to make noise with to make music. If that would be the case, the sounds that my PC does when it shuts down could be considered music. And about vocals you might be right, but vocals are not everything in music.
I know I was immature and intolerant by saying it is not music, sorry.

LOL. This was a dumb statement to to make because we can tell you have no idea what you are talking about, if your gonna argue about how hip-hop and turntables aren't music in a group with people who know hip-hop at least come prepared, becuase here your on your own.

I don't think the way the mainstream represents hip hop has anything to do with it, there's plenty of quality mainstream hip hop that people hear all the time. Lupe Fiasco, Kid Cudi, Kanye West etc. these are great acts that anti-hip hopers are exposed to all the time. The reason they hate hip hop is either that they only like one genre and genuinely don't think anything outside that genre will be worth listening to, or as someone else put it: they are fucking dinosaurs.

I used to be in the I Hate Hip-Hop group, but I realized that I was just judging it on the mainstream. I still don't like stuff like Pitbull and 50 Cent (Idk if you consider them hip-hop or not) but I like some of Jay-Z, Kanye West and Beastie Boys.

Edit: My sister also liked it, and I grew up hating whatever she liked. Now we kind of have some similar music taste.

Headbanger2510, hip hop and rap artists do have musical abilities and tastes. the usage of sample is prime example of that and indicates a knowledge of mathematics. everything musical follows mathematical divisions of time, for example 4/4, 5/4 and so on. to be able to architect a hip hop/rap song is a talent or a least a skill that has to be worked on.

and as for noise being music, many forms of noise are used in genres as diverse as industrial, ambient, soundtracks and even classical. i suggest listening to the composer John Cage's music. Iggy Pop and the Stooges often incorporated objects such as blenders and egg beaters as noise elements in their early recorders.

i understand if you don't like the genre, but why hate it if you don't comprehend it completely. i don't like much of what you listen to, but i've actually listened to much of it via some of my friends.

I agree with the first reply.

"I think main problem is bad rap stuff ( bling, bling... ) people see on TV and, beacuse they aren't openminded, think all rap is like that so they even don't want to listen to other stuff with hip-hop smell. Just in short"

Thats why I used to hate it anway. But I started searching and found great stuff. I assumed all rap was like that, so I never bothered to look. I'm pretty glad I looked recently though. Keep an open mind \m/

    Pwned

I see people talking shit about me and my tastes, so I feel it's time for me to reply here once again to put things straight.

I wrote my previous posts long time ago, when I was really closeminded (I'm still a closeminded jerk BTW) and hated hip-hop so much that my posts were just written for the only purpose of trolling.

I must admit that my attitude towards hip-hop has changed now, BUT my opinion not, I do recognize it as a form of music, as much as avant-garde and I don't hate it anymore, but I still cannot stand listening to it, so in fact I really don't care for it.

My problem with hip-hop is, I don't like rap at all, I cannot help it, I really don't like rap, nor in hip-hop, nor elsewhere (specially not in metal), besides I find most beats to be very very boring and they almost never change through the entire song so that at some point they get really really annoying.

P.D. Arguments like the ones Katisdope and ManDirky provided are full of shit and could only be written by brainless dicks. BTW my last paragraph refers to the original question of the thread, it's not just a plain statement to piss people off, it's intended to help you realize why some people may not like hip-hop.

I hate to generalize but majority of people in the I Hate Hiphop group that hate it without reason mostly seem to be Metalheads, and the groups charts pretty much make that obvious.

Yet when they do have a "reason", it's almost always because the lyrics are stupid or just all around shitty. And no, I'm not saying that Metal is stupid, but most mainstream metal bands really are no different than the mainstream Hip-hop in terms of intelligent or witty lyrics.

I don't know about them, but lyrics like:
"It's not so much the pain
    It's more the actual knife
    Pretending the picture is perfect,
    I cut myself to sleep

I close my eyes for a second
    and meet a fragile soul
I scream to hide that I'm lonely,
    The echo calls my name."

Don't impress me, yet it's from one of the most popular artists in that group, and one of their most popular songs. So I guess, it really doesn't matter why they hate it, because the opinions of someone whose entire view is a double standard really don't matter that much in the first place, they'll just continue to make the fans of the music they listen to look idiotic and ignorant.

I think, like many other people have said before me, that the reason people hate hip hop is because of the hip hop broadcast on TV and commercial radio- with monotonous beats and lyrics that degrade women or are about gangs and bling, the videos displaying these kinds of images.

I still hate this type of hip hop, to be fair- its too slick and Americanised for my tastes but I have recently grown to love a form of British hip hop called 'grime' which incorporates elements of trance and electronica- its like hip hop but rooted in electronic music and has a harsher, more authentic, British edge

  • It's because most people don't understand the message of HipHop. They only hear things like "motherfucker" and "fuck you" and think that's all 'bout it. They don't even care if there's a sense. They think Cube wants to be cool with songs like "Gangstarap made me do it"... when he says gangsterrap made him call you a nigga, made him act like a animal, made him shoot up his college they don't get what he's tryin to say. They hear exactly the opposite of what he's tryin to tell 'em, you know what I'm sayin?
And with gays -uhm, sorry, I mean GUYS- like 50 Cent I don't think HipHop will get the respect it deserves faster...

    Peace out
