    It was:

Tubeway Army - Are 'Friends' Electric?

I know this song but never knew it was the no1 single on the day of my birth.

Apparently the no1 album was Electric Light Orchestra - Discovery. Downloading this now.

  • Now I was born Jan 4th 1973 and that day the Number 1 single was
Little Jimmy Osmond "Long Haired Lover From Liverpool" (I reckon, I don't want to hear it....) and the Number 1 album was Various artist compilation (K-Tel) - "20 All Time Hits Of The 50's"

Like me, on Jan 4th were born:

    1942 - John McLaughlin ( guitarist, Mahavishnu Orchestra )
    1956 - Bernard Sumner ( guitarist, vocalist, Joy Division/ New Order )
    1960 - Michael Stipe ( vocalist, R.E.M )
    1962 - Martin McAloon ( bassist, Prefab Sprout )
1962 - Robin Guthrie ( guitarist, keyboard player, The Cocteau Twins )
    1965 - David Glasper ( singer-songwriter with Breathe )
    1965 - Cait O'Riordan ( bassist, The Pogues )
    1965 - Beth Gibbons ( vocalist, Portishead )
1977 - Benjamin Darvill ( mandolin player, harmonica player, guitarist with The Crash Test Dummies )
1977 - Tim Wheeler ( bassist, vocalist with Ash )
