For those of you where it's still not working, please try deleting Last.fm from your Mac, and then deleting any residual files.

The easiest way to do this is to open the Terminal app, and paste the following:

    rm ~/Library/Preferences/fm.last.*

    and

    rm -rf ~/"Library/Application Support/Last.fm"

    Then try reinstalling.

EDITED FOR TRUTH. Now including CORRECT support path.

    Champion!

    Thanks for the help :)

    residual files

where would you find residual files?

  • Anyone else having this problem - no username being shone with device.

I've downloaded the newest version that was posted previously. iTunes scrobbles perfectly, but iPhone scrobbles, not at all.
I was looking through my preferences and noticed that under the "iPod" tab, it did not list a username for my iPhone.

The first time I hooked my iPhone with my Mac, I put in my username and password, just like the very first time I did with my iPod touch about 2 years ago. Is this the reason why my scrobbles aren't being sent through - because it doesn't say that my username is connected with the device?

    EDIT: Now scrobbling works!

    iPhone still causes crash

I tried Knapster's fix but last.fm/iTunes still crash soon after I connect my iPhone. Also I haven't had any beachball problems in the last week of not using last.fm and they returned immediately after I reinstalled, so I think it's safe to say the last.fm client is responsible.

I hope there's another fix soon!

    Amazed

So I downloaded the scrobbler yesterday, and when I restarted my iMac iTunes kept crashing until I removed the Last Fm application. Of course I found this thread... and this problem has existed for OVER A YEAR???? And still not solved, apparently. For now I will not use Last Fm and see if there is any reason for this mess...

Have you tried installing the latest update here yet?

  • Christ. Been trying to get my iPhone to be recognised all evening. Deleted all residual files. Installed new beta. Tried every setting going. ARGH!!! I wish last.fm wasn't so buggy! It's really spoiling something which should be completely transparent.

Beta works for me!!! A big thanks to the guys at Last.FM.

Autostart with iTunes works a little too well - it launches two instances of Last.FM :)

You guys at Last.fm are awesome, thanks for the quick fix.

Eff You See Kay Why Oh You.
  • Still crashing

I've had iPod scrobbling turned off for about a year because of the crashing whenever I connected my iPhone. I came here earlier in the week for a solution to the Last.fm not launching with iTunes problem and downloaded the update, which seemed to fix the crash bug but not the failure to launch. Having found more time, I've just removed Last.fm and residual files entirely, restarted and reinstalled. I was prompted to download another update during installation, so I'm now running 1.5.4.26864.

Last.fm is starting with iTunes again, but the crash is back when I try to sync my iPhone. Arg!

Looks like installing the latest update has made this problem actually start for me :(

Followed the instructions to clear the preference files and still no luck, itunes just crashes as soon as I open it.

    We need another update soon!

Itunes (newest version) crashes as well for me when connecting the ipad (soon after the ipad backup is finished) even after updating to the newest version of last.fm for mac os x. itunes doesn't crash now after I have removed the last.fm bundle. Pls. work together with Apple to solve this issue.

While I haven't been having this problem for very long, in this forum page and others I've read that many other users have been having the same problem for much longer. I find it very disappointing that last.fm's developers only get round to fixing the plugin after Apple disable it, and while I am perfectly happy with the current last.fm application (now that it works), I do think that the developers should saying "watch this space" and either give a definite release date or let it be a nice surprise when a new major release comes, rather than a disappointment for those who are expecting it.

    No Last FM for me

Of course I tried the latest update and but it is very unattractive to first install the 'regular' download, crash, find a thread with a newer download and need to remove stuff through Terminal. I really don't see the need to spend any more time with Last FM just to be able to open my iTunes. Will end my account, and share my experiences on Facebook.

I think that's a little harsh. last.fm get no advance warning from Apple on iTunes changes. So what would you have them do? They found out about the issue the same time everyone else did. And then started working on a fix. The client update they posted back on 20 July fixed the issue for me. I don't know about you but I happen to think that's a pretty fast response actually.

last.fm are great are I thank them for helping everyone on the issue - but their newest update (1.5.4.26864) no longer works with itunes for some reason!

Yeah - over a year ago. The latest patch fixed the not launching issue, but the crashing when trying to sync an iPhone issue has remained for over a year.

  • success. . .

    mine started working today
