You you run iPod Diagnostics in iTunes and send me the output from that?

If that looks normal, then this could well be a last.fm bug - What iPod do you have exactly? (Model, Generation, Firmware Version (which i'm guessing is 1.62))

Edit: A bit more research says this Device ID is the standard for iPod Nanos/Classics. I'm guessing you have one of them? I'll contact max at the client team and let him know about it.

Somehow, although I have no idea about the whole thing, I don't like the result :(

It works now, but to scrobble my ipod, I have to do it manually : I have to go on last.fm, diagnostic > scrobble ipod...

Automatic scrobbling seems to doesn't work anymore :p.

It will, just will take longer (due to what i think is a bug!) - It times out and should scrobble after 5 minutes, or when you unplug your iPod.

    no difference so far :(

What version of windows are you running? Windows 2000 by any chance?

Edit: Do you have an instant messenger? I'd like to try and resolve this for you, but the forums are too slow to do any kind of detailed troubleshooting, really. I want to see event logs for windows (as windows is generating the error), and theres a bunch of other things we can try :)

Edit2: How advanced a user are you? If this doesn't make sense to you, the answer is no: Did you disable the Windows Management Instrumentation service?

Im an amateur nerd :P. Ive got AIM ( joppefierens) and msn (joppe.11@hotmail.com), I turned it off last week and didn't work then, haven't checked it with the new patch so I just turned it off now ;-). Im using XP SP2 by the way

edit: I think the new patch did something, after turning off the WMI and running last.fm Diagnostics, it started showing the log file (that was empty or not there before) of the songs I played in the last week (before I formatted my laptop ;) ). After rebooting I turned on WMI again and it still worked. It seems to be working :)

So thanks alot for all your time ;-), I feel like a 9 year old on christmas morning.

edit 2: It scrobbles if I use Diagnostics, not automatically. But that doesn't matter, it works so I'm happy :). Maybe this will work for others too ?

Hey dude :) Awesome! Glad its finally working for you.

It should scrobble automatically, too - but will just take longer, as i said above :) Timeout is 5 minutes, or unplug the iPod to trigger it :P

IPOD Touch scrobbling not working on Vista with Itunes 7.7.

ITunes played songs work fine only Ipod songs are not appearing.

I have uploaded my logs as requested.

    Matty,

    could of questions for you:

Do you have more than one iPod/iPhone? Seems a bunch of conflicting messages for just 1 device, ie:

    080831 19:34:43 - IPodDetector::onDeviceConnected(362) - L3
Ignoring this iPhone / iPod touch as mobile scrobbler has been detected!

But you're also getting the RPC_E_CALL_REJECTED message.

The fix for this is two things:

first: close iTunes/Last.fm, then hit windows key + r, and type 'iTunes /regserver' without the quotes. Reboot and try again. If this works, great, if not:

second: download the iTunes installer from www.apple.com/itunes/download and run it, then click 'repair' when you run it :)

Reboot again, and you should be all sorted. But you might need to wait a good 5 minutes for it to scrobble.

Thanks for the data.. i'm concerned by 'Apple Mobile Device Service not found.' - as i'm pretty sure this is a requirement for all newest iPods to work properly.

Can you repair iTunes? www.apple.com/itunes/download - grab the installer and run it, then you can hit repair.

    See if that works :)

  • Scrobbling's back ... but only with multiple playcounts

After weeks/months of no scrobbling - which I think pre-dated the iTunes 7.7.1 issue - I downloaded the new Last.FM plug-in today. The good news - I'm scrobbling again. The bad news - I have multiple playcounts of the songs I have played recently.

Looking back through the past few days, Last.FM is double-, treble-, quadrauple- and, in at least one instance - sextuple-counting the songs I've played. i.e. the Last.FM log shows that I played the same song multiple times at the same time of day.

WTF? How does this reconcile with what Last.FM staff said, earlier in this thread, about playcounts not getting lost or scrambled? What confidence can one have in the charts?

The idea of Last.FM is great. But, in my experience, scrobbling from the iPod is broken far too often for the data to be meaningful.

  • no scrobbles whatsoever

i have uploaded my logs and version numbers.
let me know when you have a chance to look at them.
    thanks!

  • I haven't been able to scrobble from my iPod in a while. When I plug it in I leave it connected for a while just in case it's a time issue, but no luck so far. I manually manage my iPod. It's a 30GB video. I'm running Windows Vista. I have iTunes version 7.7.1.11, Last.fm version 1.5.2.38918, and iTunes plugin version 3.0.2.0. I just tried clicking "Scrobble iPod" from Last.fm's "Diagnostics" menu but was getting impatient so I stopped it. I uploaded my logs. Hope you get them.

    Thanks

    thanks!

You're also getting 'RPC_E_CALL_REJECTED' which means the iTunes COM server isn't registered properly with windows.

Two easy ways to try and fix it:

First: Try simply closing iTunes and last.fm, then pressing Windows Key + R, then typing 'iTunes /regserver' into that dialog box. Reboot and try again.

If that doesn't work, download the iTunes installer from www.apple.com/itunes/download and hit 'repair' when you run it :) Reboot, and you should be fine, and any missing scrobbles -should- appear.

    Thats okay.. We'll push on!

Looking at oroshii's logs from yesterday, that user is also getting the same iPod device ID error as you, but seems to still be able to scrobble by forcing it in diagnostics.

Have you tried that? Go into last.fm diagnostics and hit 'scrobble' iPod.

I notice your last iPod Scrobble was 080826 13:30:12 - was it the last.fm client you updated which broke it?

okay - the problem seems to indeed have been the missing AMDS. I looked up at itunes support & the only solution was to unstall & newly install iTunes which I did. And now *surprise, surprise* everythings back to normal and works fine. Even all the missing scrobbles were found.......

I'll thank you for your patient and help (which even I somehow understood ;) )

Ignore the times. If you play a song more than once, last.fm is only able to know the most recent time, so it assigns that to every instance of the play.

Perfectly normal, common and expected. Its impossible for it to get play times of each track.

So the 6 plays its found at the same time will just be 6 plays of the song since the last sync. all pushed to the newest play time.

Glad you're sorted! The time delay is a bug which is effecting everyone it seems now, i'm sure it'll be fixed in either iTunes 8 (expected in the next couple of weeks, according to rumours!) or the next client update! (And i'd guess both of them will be very similarly timed, knowing how much apple like to change things!)

  • well i'll be damned...

i just went out of town for the weekend and came back and now everything is working great!
so that must be the solution... everyone go on vacation!!!!

igladdy - thanks a bundle. Very clear, and reassuring.

  • Another iPod not scrobbling issue

last.fm software appears to have stopped scrobbling my ipod, and not for the first time. I'm running OS X, and have all the latest version of iTunes and last.fm but when I synced my iPod - nothing happened.

I'd listened to about 100 or so tracks today, so it's a bit annoying that all that information won't be updated in my profile.
