iPod Shuffle not transferring play data ...

  • iPod Shuffle not transferring play data ...

Strictly, I guess this might be an iPod Shuffle related question mainly (!) ... But I am proud owner of a nice new iPod Shuffle, and enjoying v much. However, when I use it, and then dock it, it doesn't seem to copy the play information across i.e. it doesn't say what music I listened to on it, and therefore doesn't update the 'Recently Played' playlist, which therefore doesn't update the iScrobbler plugin ... V annoying. Anyone else found this yet? Any ways round it? Thanks, Dan.

the ishuffle does not transfer it's playcount back to itunes, so there is probably no way for the plugin to get this data. apple cut a lot of corners to get the ishuffle price down, one of which is that the ishuffle playlist is really just a playlist... when you plug in your ishuffle, you are not viewing it's contents in itunes, you are just viewing the custom playlist that itunes built for the ishuffle.

it's still a great player though.

is there no way at all this could work? it's a bit annoying

  • Thanks Munkey ... that kinda explains it. Tho I still don't really see that it being 'just a playlist' means the play count data can't be transferred back. Does that mean it has no onboard storage of what it's played? That seems odd ...

The iPod shuffle has no internal clock so it cannot sync last played times but I was under the impression that it synced play counts with the iTunes library...

I thought that it was updating counts, but after I observed it for awhile, it didn't look like it was updating counts on the computer. Sigh, oh well. My Audioscrobbler song count languishes...

Are you sure? The play counts should increase in your iTunes library. Google.

  • There is a script at macosxhints.com (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050331123345536&mode=print) for updating/fudging the "Last Played" in iTunes. I think the techniques used could be munged into iScrobbler. The main problem is that it sets LP to the current date, so that would fire the spam protection, but as it is arbitary, it would be possible to space them back in time I guess.

  • The playcount does increase after updating the iPod

Can I transfer music from My iPOD shuffle from one apple computer to another?

It was cheesecake putting all my tunes from iTunes onto my new iPod Shuffle, but when I brought my iPod Shuffle to work and tried to put those songs on my Shuffle onto my PowerMac G5 it would not let me. A message popped up saying it would erase all of the information on my iPod if I proceeded forward.

    Any thoughts or suggestions...?

    Thanks...

You can only use an iPod with one iTunes Music Library at a time, for a few reasons.

There are some apps that will let you manually transfer songs to and from an iPod, try searching Versiontracker for them.

Use Winamp w/ ml_iPod. This works great for transfering songs, but so far the Winamp/iPod combo isn't supported by Audioscrobbler (as far as I can tell).

As the title of the post suggests, macluva99 is a Mac user.

I did a search on Versiontracker, there are quite a few options, this was the first one I found. That way you can transfer songs on the G5, then still possibly synchronise with the other Mac.

  • This is better

This is the best one I've found - and used. It checks with your iTunes library to see what songs you have already, and displays an icon next to those which are on both. V useful

    transfer songs to itunes

transfer songs from ipod/iphone/ipad to itunes and share with friends has trouble me some time. Now, it's easy, only to have a tool called ipod transfer, it can easily transfer music and videos from ipod to iTunes, it also supports transfer music from iphone to computer, backup your contents in case of losing, and easy share with friends.
