    Group & Country Weekly Charts

Yesterday was the first time our updated weekly chart framework saw some action. We're now plotting country and group charts, as well as the usual user charts, every Sunday afternoon.

Notice the places link on country pages, and country pages now have their own weekly charts.

Groups with at least 10 members should also have weekly charts now.

Ability to browse past weeks and syndicate charts will appear in a few weeks, once we're happy with the way it's working.

In other news, statistics from badly spelled artists are being merged into the correct spelling, thanks to all the moderations that have been going on. This is about half way complete, and will get a mention on the front page in more detail later this week. Some people may already have noticed that duplicate artists in the top artists list have been merged.

UPDATE: We're going to plot number of unique listeners AND total playcounts for groups, so both options are available (good for small groups).

    Information wants to be beer.

Glad to know things are beginning to take off. Now if only my stats updated. ;)

My stats still show duplicate entries. When they get updated, should they then merge?

Yes, when those artists are merged, your stats will then show 1 artist instead of 2 identical ones.. only once your lists update tho.
The merging process is slowing down the list generation a tad, but we only have to clear this backlog once, then it's just a handful each day.

    Information wants to be beer.

    Cool.

    But....

    [ignore]
One small bug. Take a look at Female fronted Metal. Shouldn't Nightwish have more than 66 plays looking at the Top Track plays... or is the count a relative rather than absolute index? [/ignore]

Do we also loose the consolidated top artists and tracks?

Edit: ignore the 'plays' thing. I'm just learning to read :-)

  • I was wondering if names of bands that automatically turn all into CAPS would be changed as well? It's very annoying when they do that :(

Same thing when they're no capital letters at all..

  • Progress Progress! Keep up the good work!

    :'(
we are only 4 persons in the group because we are living together in a flat.. so we'll never get weekly stats?? :((

edit: wahh, what's that?? i had a look to our group page, and it's not only that we have no weekly stats but no stats at all...
sorry to say this, but in the last few months for me audioscrobbler got worse, unpure and complicated

    Cool!

Though one of my groups weekly charts looks a bit wrong. The Darkness are top with 5 listens, yet I myself have listened to 101 Smashing Pumpkins songs last week!

As someone who has just learnt to read...

Chart values indicate the number of different group members who listened to a given item in the past week.

Err, bullshit? If someone who has 100,000 tracks joins a small group where everyone else only has 1000 plays, they are going to completely take over that group's chart. I can't see how that's "bringing new influence", it's significantly skewing the statistics in favour of someone who has been around longer.

    It great.

Though a total listens (aka: old style) chart would have been nice too.

Plus charts for sub-10-members groups :(

    love it but

Okay, this is a wierd one, but here goes:

My weekly chart shows I listened to The Mountain Goats 97 times. But the Mountain Goats don't show up in either of the two General Groups I founded, Austin City Limits and SXSW, even though the top artist for those two had 20 listens and 8 listens, respectively.

    Clues?

do people read anything before they decide to post?

i think most people at least manage the opening post to a new thread.

So would it be possible to have the two formats up up some point? i.e. one set of charts for number of unique listeners, and the other for total track plays?

I think it's a very bad idea to remove the old-style group charts. Now smaller groups don't have any use, and it's not likely they are going to grow this way.
I know there probably were a lot of reasons for doing this, and this is a great free service and all, but I am somewhat pissed about this. :(

One of my groups lost its running total stats?

  • I had 2 Eagles now merged into 1. Good job.

But I still have 2 Afro Celts and 2 Alan Parsons Project.

    GAF
  • I like the most-listened charts, but I would VERY MUCH like to see the old top-lists stay as well. They were pretty much the reason for me joining many groups, and they show lots of interesting things.
Especially with member/owner approval groups, where the group can decide for themselves whether someone with lots of songs played is allowed in...

Think about it if you please.

From now on, ending a sentence with a proposition is something up which with I will not put.

Maby you could keep the old charts for the small groups and the new system for the big groups.
