I'm just not understanding how there are always technical difficulties.

Me either. But it's fun seeing all the different ways the code breaks down on a bi-weekly basis!

Well it's a free service, and (I'm guessing) the people working on Audioscrobbler have lives, so it can't be perfect ALL the time. :)

I am sure they've more stress than we users have ;)
We're just relaxing and waiting for things to work again on our lazy asses.

Respect! Keep up the good work.

take your time, thanks for all the hard work!

it's almost like a weird techie soap opera watching all the audioscrobbler drama unfold. except everything is still moving in a positive direction and nobody is gettin' killed ;-)

With approximately 18 000~ active plugins, a majority of these sends what.. a song every three minutes. It's getting hammered constantly. And it has to inject all of those songs into the databases, and the machines have to calculate stats for all of those users etc etc etc. You get the picture.

its fun to see how people get addicted to that.. thing! :D

It's annoying the crap out of me reading this thread, I've had a dialup connection for going on 7 years now ( I live in the boonies, we're only just getting adsl ) and I think it's gifted me with a little patience that the insta-broadband generation are perhaps lacking.

So if I pay for the service, will it be better?

It'll certainly help them to keep things running and to keep improving it. The machines, colocation, etc. are all very expensive to maintain.

  • Take whatever you need to fix it, guys. No matter what some people may say, we can, and will, wait for things to be taken care of.

Considering that the statistics shows that the average number of active plugins is increasing by about 600 A DAY, this place is really taking off, and the load is just going to keep increasing. It looks like AS might have hit the tipping point - and hopefully the 'tipping point' doesn't mean when the place is going to fall over, crash, and die.

Thanks for the news Russ, I hope Java will make things better for everyone of us. :)

Russ and RJ and ALL AS, thanks and keep up the good work!

Everyone: Relax and fix your tags on the songs. Patience.

evilangelina: You might be right. In the past new subscriptions have been limited if needed to manage traffic. I am sure if we are at a "tipping point" they will adjust accordingly.

    Have a great day!!!
