scrobbling on other computers without downloading the last.fm software

  • scrobbling on other computers without downloading the last.fm software

Is there some way that my at work listening (where I don't and can't dl the last.fm software) can be scrobbled?

Given an .xml of my recent listening, is there some way that I can add it to my profile? That would be great.

    (using itunes and windows)

  • Is the issue that you can't download & install *anything* on your work computer or you just can't download & install the last.fm client? You could, for example, give iSproggler a try.

Here's my setup: work computer with iTunes (no physical songs/library on that computer). I plugin my iPod and use that as the source of my music in iTunes, listen throughout the day & have iSproggler scrobble tracks.

Or, you could just plug your desktop speakers directly into your iPod (assuming they have a 1/8" jack, and that you have an iPod) and scrobble everything when you get home with the Last.fm client or iSproggler.

As far as being able to upload the info directly from the XML file to your Last.fm profile, I don't know of any way to do that.

  • Thanks for those ideas - neither of those works for me in this case.

I can download nothing to this machine (though it has itunes - which I listen to an external HD with). I was hoping to take my day's listening (as an .xml or an .m3u) and then load it up at home.

Is there a way (with audioscrobbler perhaps) to point it at a file instead of a device?

I could take my 'played today' playlist from the work machine on to an ipod and then have that ipod play that playlist - but that's a bit disingenuous and a bit of a bother too.

I could plug in an ipod and load up each song on there before I play it and then take that home, scrobble, wipe it clean, and repeat each day. That seems like too much of a hassle as well. (also, with the itunes/hd approach I get to share my library across the network - which I really like)

    Any other ideas?

There isn't a way to import an xml file so just about every possible solution would boil down to something like this to hack/bypass the system. No matter what you can get to work it's not official or supported, you're kind of on your own for experementing for a solution. However the question does occasionally come up so anything you learn will be very interesting to other people who also want to move and xml log from one computer to another.
