I would quote the message if that worked, but yeah, the Reply Tracker RSS feed mentioned on the last page is indeed very cool. Thanks for the info!

  • I really want the translation of Japanese artist's names to English text back. Really.

Yes, recent event updates of friends is my favorite missing feature too! I hope the dashboard will change. The way it's now, it displays a lot of information I don't want to see there. Why the library again? The old dashboard displayed all new information. If I remember it well the 20 last tracks played by your friends (now 10), 5 recent friends event updates (now gone) and neighbours recommendations. That page was brilliant, now it's annoying.

Is there anyway of separating your top weekly listened to artists to your overall top? when visiting another's profile it was so much easier to see their weekly and overall at once, now i have to click to view each one separately with the current options. I find it unnecessary.

also, when I set my profile preferences a certain way (say on overall top, view 50) could this be applied to all pages I view? this feature was possible when I decided to collapse my friends and neighbors view and it applied to everyone else's profile, so I'm wondering if it's possible to allow this in my settings.

i think a lot of the old things will make their way back in some form or another. I never understood the "neighbors" function anyway, so I don't miss that. but what about the pop-up player? is that gone for good too?

INCREASE CHART CAP FROM 200 BACK TO 500+

  • My complaints, since we're sharing:

    1. Overall chart reduction from 500 to 200 artists. It's just limiting, I would say a top 500 is a minimum sufficient quantity for profiling the tastes of an avid music enthusiast such as myself.

    2. Giant photos of my favorite artists on my page, the quilt was small and easy to ignore, staring at my favorite musicians' faces feels a bit voyeuristic, I don't like picturing the people as I listen to their music.

    3. The shoutbox is too big. It's obnoxious. I have very few friends on here, only two of my best friends in real life and some random guy who has similar tastes. It seems as though I'm not the only person who finds the shoutbox insignificant, this site was never about leaving comments on people's pages and is not worth the amount of space it has been given.

    4. The lack of separation between top artists of the week and top overall artists. These are vital when it comes to profiling recent listening, you can't easily compare what you can't view simultaneously.

    5. The aesthetics. It still bothers the eyes, even with a downloaded script painting it black. The white has to go, for the same reason most classrooms switched from blackboards to green chalk boards.

    6. The change in the format for "recently listened tracks". Simply because it is more difficult to read, also it makes it harder to see at-a-glance whether the same artist was listened to continuously. Having to read about ten entries isn't that much of a problem, but it is an aesthetic concern all the same. A script can be downloaded to alter the appearance of this chart as well, putting the tracks in "Song-Artist" format.

    7. The fact that these changes are remaining despite the response. It would help if everyone could be civil with their complaints, but it is clear that many of the concerns are legitimate and reflect a destruction of the purpose of this website. Few sites of substance change as much as last.fm has this week, changes are a part of life, and a part of the internet, but it seems that the changes should be scaled back as much as possible, given the responses.

    8. The fact that I actually care. Yeah, I loved this site. I'm not ready to accept that it's changed almost beyond recognition. I'll hold out hope that we might see a partial shifting towards the traditional formulas that worked better.

Weekly neighbours + what they are listening to

Weekly neighbours and what they are currently listening to was always the best way of finding new music. Its what I paid for. Sadly I renewed my subscription in January and still have 6 months to go. Six months of not getting what I paid for - rapid access to new music based on what i have been listening to recently. Bring this back and I can tolerate the inefficient use of space and slightly lacklustre design

  • Miss the paint it black version - weekley charts and weekly neighbours!
design is awesome, but the layout.. well.. maybe I get used to it.

  • .neighbors
    .quilts
.understated color scheme of the charts and background color (grey)
    .original shout box.
. wide screen, 3 column design
. top 500 overall artist (library is NOT a substitute for that)
. the non 90s nav bar
. functional, small and characteristic flash players on artists as well as user page
. the amount of groups and tags i can see in one page
. group moderation tools (currently completely broken)
    . paint it black
    . Joy
. how easy it was to tag
    . name votes

    - to sum it up, the old layout and most of the features with it.

    Mostly It's the Old Layout

There should at least be an option for old farts like me who are set in their ways to select the old layout. I don't want last.fm to look like Facebook, Facebook itself is bad enough. I do appreciate some of the new features but the layout is appalling. 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' - and as far as I'm concerned, the layout wasn't broke!

where can i find that script?
i use stylish to paint it black and make the site more compact, but i also would love be able to change the order of artist and songtitle in the recently listened tracks

recent visitors was real interesting to me. it was the second reason for me to subscribe, right after the idealistic support for the makers of this great community. but now i cant find it anywhere, like many other things.
i see some improvements as well, but the wont compensate my losses at all. my last 7 days of subscription are fading away, and i just can't find a good reason to renew anymore...

and now "Bite my shiny metal ass!"

Q: What good is a forum without a search?

A: About as good as an encyclopaedia that's not in alphabetical order.

  • profile visitors

I really miss seeing who was checking out my profile. I admit it!! I know it's vain, but there it is. It was so cool to wonder "what brought THAT person by my page?" Also... how to you find another person's page now? I want to send a friend request to someone I just recruited, but I can't figure out how to.

The social interaction factor was the primary function of Last.fm that made it so special. Please don't tell me it has been phased out.

I also miss paint it black and the quilts. A LOT. But I'll live.
Thanks for listening. (LAST.FM: you ARE listening, right?)

About as good as a forum with last.fm's old search function ;)

The forum search will be coming back, they're just taking some time to actually make it do something as the old one was useless.

Top 500 in your charts is apparently going to come back. (I said this yesterday, too, but at least 4 people have posted in this thread since then complaining about it..)

@the post above this: you still have your 'recent visitors'. Look directly beneath the player on the top-right of your profile. It may be that you weren't seeing any because the cache had cleared and nobody had visited since then, but I've just visited your profile now - can you see that?

Artist Quilts, maybe bring in dynamic ones that change instantly when you select a different chart.
