Cool, just put this one on my profile and it's just what I wanted - a clean, clear, simple list of the song's I've just played.

Looking forward to the official app, although this one is an excellent "stopgap" solution!

Last.fm developers, I think you're underestimating facebook's impact on your target users! You need to get something official out there soon if you don't want to lose a bunch of potential users to your competitors simply because they got there first.

The unofficial app is okay, but I'm sure it's nothing compared to what you guys could do if you tried.

We don't want to come out with something half-baked. We are working on it, it'll be another two or three days.

(Bear in mind today is a public holiday in the UK, and yet some of us are working on it in our own time)

And also bear in mind that we've had ONE working day so far on this - our competitors have had several weeks to get ready (and this isn't our fault!).

    Hi Russ,
Don't worry I think most people understand that you are trying to get this sorted ASAP. I for one can't wait for the official implementation - but in the mean time I am trying to advertise last.fm on my facebook profile in a number of ways.

Why were the others allowed access to facebook API before you then?

Oh, and I hope that the application is going to be easy to use and complete (all the more reason we shouldn't be hurrying to release it incomplete) because not everyone seems happy with the iLike application (or indeed many others) so making it clear and simple is the key. But I'm sure you already know that!! lol.

Keep up the good work. I am certainly loving last.fm at the moment.

  • I like the flash embed a lot, especially the way we can listen to tid bits of the song someone has just listened to. Very nice.

I'm pretty excited about the possibilities. A chart only takes a little while to encode, so then there must be more on the horizon.

    I'm waiting with anticipation. :)

  • haha! i've been searching for this thread! i can't wait until the release of the app of Last.Fm for Facebook!!!! i've been wanting to do that since last year!!! hehe! thanks last.fm!

looking forward to the official release.. I'm using the one available now and it's a bit dodgy.

take your time to create a good one.. so many of the apps made already are total junk.. ugly, not working, etc..

once the official app is ready people will know where to get the goods.

I'll just add my voice to the crowd of "we appreciate the work you're putting in, and can't wait to see what you come up with".

  • Just wanted to agree about excited anticipation for the official Last.fm FB app....I was one of the first people to find the Last.fm app currently making waves on Facebook now, the unofficial one, and it's cute...only beef I have is that if you haven't listened to songs in the last 24 hours your widget is just empty.

Hopefully in the real version you guys create there will be no removal of recent tracks that surpass the 24 hour mark, as I know there is a dedicated page on all of our profiles that lists ALL of the previous songs we've scrobbled, so that XML should be accessible to always populate with, right?

This is important to me, because if someone is checking my profile out and just sees a bland "this person hasn't listened to any songs recently" message, they're probably not going to look at it again or get a sense of the kind of tunes I like (yes, music is important to me and kinda helps give people more of an idea who I am! LOL).

Anyhow, just wanted to put this feature request out there..."dead air" isn't really great for a listing app.

    Thanks guys! Can't wait :)

English_patient - how do I access that XML of all scrobbled tracks?

Haha, I'm very self-conscious like that too.

Solution: never let 24 hrs pass without playing music. Hehehehe.

  • Hey daProj....well it seems like you can either get a short list that runs out of songs if they're not recent on your main profile page, or you can use the view more option and get taken to this page:

    http://www.last.fm/user/english_patient/charts/?charttype=recenttracks

...obviously replacing your profile name where appropriate for your own extended list of recent tracks. So that surplus of info is stored somewhere right? But I couldn't seem to find an actual XML path when I looked thru the source...there must be ones that control that though, as I work with flash and xml is basically the main way to connect external info into a swf interface. Just not sure of the mechanics on this one! I'm sure they can pick up where my knowledge lacks though...

amoyensis...I thought of that too! guess every morning when I'm eating my special k I better throw something on.. :-P

Question on the unofficial one...does it update without you having to do it manually (text based)? Mine wasn't updating, then I went back into the settings and hit the button again, and it updated. Anyone else having this problem?

  • Keep up the great work guys. Looking forward to seeing what new people this app can bring to Last.fm. I'm glad I've been around since the unreliable days of Audioscrobbler...

...but now Last.fm owns! For the time being, the unofficial apps work just fine. I'd love to see what you've guys got cooking up.

And as far as I'm concerned, iLike is lame. I think anything with i_____ unless it's an iPod is lame. Well, maybe the iBook and the iRack [:D] can stay.

Hey, the official app sounds like it is going to be good stuff, I can't wait to get a hold of it.

  • Like Minimal Techno? ---> You'll love High on Electronic Music

TechCrunch - iLike is the most popular facebook application....

    Just because something's popular (Eurovision's popular!), doesn't mean it's good :P
I have faith in the Last.fm guys to produce something that totally knocks the socks off iLike.

  • Thanks for everyones hard work - looking forward to the official app!

Yeah, same problem here, it was working when I first added the app though. Not sure what's going on.

    Russ,

thank you and all the other developers for your hard work. It sucks that you got access to the API at the same time as us end users.

Yeah. Use the flash-based list, I was having trouble with the text one too. I think Facebook caches the image or something.
