Fine-tuning the Recommended Music page

  • Fine-tuning the Recommended Music page

First of all, I apologise if this has been suggested - I've tried to search, but i'm not finding.

As someone who listens to 90% Industrial, I'm obviously keen to listen to similar. My recommendations are clogged with hundreds of psytrance, metal, and rock artists, because I have just one in my library. This is obviously frustrating.

Could we develop a way to 'ban' a genre, or keyword from ever appearing?

  • Bump, for further development of a great site

  • Absolutely!!
Last.fm scrobbled some country song from itunes and my recommended page started mixing industrial with suicide country music, horrible.
It would be awesome if we could ban keywords or genres.

I was wanting to post exactly the same! That would be a great idea.

  • Yes. A million times, yes. Everything else is perfect.

    Workarounds...?

In the absence of a 'perfect' fix, could you just listen to one genre at a time on your http://www.last.fm/home/recs page?

Or you might get some luck with http://beta.combofm.de/ to generate a code with 'not' a particular tag or artist.

    edit
If you made a secondary account with purely industrial artists I wonder if playing their 'RecommendedRadio' would exclude psytrance, metal, and rock artists?

It might be that if you don't get a staffer answer in the first few days... you never will, and you'll have to work out a workaround.

I read through this thread and the forum every week and report all feasible suggestions up the chain o' command. I don't always post however, because we can't make promises on anything suggested. We do read them though.

  • This feature has brought me from nu metal, via cyber metal into harsh ebm and through thrash and black metal, further into atmospheric black metal and I've never been musically happier ^^

So, this is good for you. If you don't like several artist or genres, keep on banning them. This system is like a living creature. If you beat it often, it will stop to post bands within the genre.

Nope. I've had Metalcore and Punk come up daily for a year, and I delete everything every day.

  • And it still happens. I DONT listen to Punk!

If you want to limit or fine tune what you listen to on your recommendations radio, you can use Combo.fm which will let you create a multi-tag recommendations radio as will as letting you choose tags or artists not to include.

I quite agree though, it is a problem.
How did you get on with the other suggestions?

Another thought would be to look for a neighbour or 'Industrial' listener who has a library already excluding psytrance, metal, and rock. ?

  • Yeah nothing else has really worked, if I delete a band, they're there again within a week.
