auto-correction redirections that were doing fine the previous week seem to have stopped working this week, eg:

both Caecilie Norby and Cæcilie Nørby and "their" music no longer point to Cæcilie Norby (the real deal).

(i have auto-correction on. had first reported it here.)

  • A track of Daft Punk's live album Alive 2007, namely Around the World / Harder Better Faster Stronger (which, by the way, is the correct tag as stated on the CD booklet) was originally merged with Around The World / Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger, and they're now de-merged again. I don't really care which track redirects to which track, but these two should be put together. But in the end, just because more people scrobbled the latter and because it looks so much neater with the commas (pfft.), it shouldn't be ignored what booklets (and artists themselves) say.

I'm not satisfied. The function is not bad, but not for all :(

DJ Exile must be as DJ Exile not just Exile
DJ Muggs vs. Planet Asia must be as default tag, DJ Muggs & Planet Asia must be as alias and second tag

    Hi there,

Frank Zappa/ Theodore Bikel/ Jimmy Carl Black/ George Duke/ Aynsley Dunbar/ Howard… should be merged with Frank Zappa.

It was merged week ago, then separated again. Why?

    Thanks,

    g.

Too may artists have been split up...worse, some people just uploaded tracks on split artists...stats are so incorrect and will continue to be incorrect. Can't these artists simply be merged?

vote for them and in time they will be :)

Hm, and what about artists we have already voted for and yet the auto-correction has been undone? For example Stuart Chatwood and Inon Zur. This should link to Stuart Chatwood and I really doubt that anyone has voted otherwise, since there are only five listeners of Stuart Chatwood and Inon Zur with a total of 387 plays of which 311 are scrobbled by me. With the previous update my Stuart Chatwood and Inon Zur plays were merged with my Stuart Chatwood ones and now that's undone.
Another example is Hipodil (a wrong tag) which was merged with Хиподил (the correct tag written in Bulgarian - the band's native language) and now is unmerged again.

I hope this will be fixed, since these were 2 of the 3 most significant changes in my library and I was extremely happy about them.

  • Actually, the new auto-corrections have made things more frustrating for me...in my iTunes I have Utada Hikaru's tracks labeled with her name in English, and this used to be redirected to her kanji (宇多田ヒカル) page; as in, there were not separate pages for her name written in English and in Kanji like there is now. Very frustrating - I mean, auto-correct fixes this so that I don't have to worry about this, but auto-correct has also mistitled the song "Paper Houses" by Josiah Leming, so I'm forced to have auto-correct turned off because I don't want that song scrobbled under the incorrect name that last.fm thinks is right (Paper House). It would be helpful if this was fixed sometime soon.

To all the people turning auto-corrections off:

I hope you actually VOTED for the correct track/artist and directed incorrect tracks to those correct names. (and of course, I hope that you're actually correct and not voting for something wrong >_>)

Also I'd love to know exactly when it is Last.fm will load the new weekly set of corrections, I want to watch for some tracks/artists I know don't right now :)

    Correct default titles?

Questions about which artist should be considered "correct" when there is an English and Japanese title, like all the Final Fantasy soundtracks:

They're all on iTunes now with new English tracklists, some received official American releases with another tracklist, and they were all originally released in Japan with Japanese tracklists.

I assume it would be prudent to direct the tracks to the English titles and then have the Japanese side be translated into Japanese?

i believe you should defer to the language of the artist's country of origin in all cases. clarifications can go in the wikis.

By the way, possible to correct uppercase and lowercase? For example name name to Name Name? A lot of artists are listed with lower case.

    Suggest a correction for albums?

It's not even close to as urgent as with tracks and bands but when will there be auto-corrections for albums?

  • Autocorrection same as original?

I'm not sure if I can trust my eyes. Anyone seeing a difference here?

  • Just the other week, Thee Silver Mt. Zion Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band autocorrected to just A Silver Mt. Zion, with the latter name being apparently the more popular (and I guess therefore appropriate) tag. This changed within the past few days, however, and my plays between the two names are split. Why the change again?

Unfortunately, you need to look at the urls:
    http://www.last.fm/music/+noredirect/Shpongle/_/When+Shall++I+Be+Free%3F
    versus
    http://www.last.fm/music/Shpongle/_/When+Shall+I+Be+Free%3F
(Note the two "+" in the first (wrong) title. These stand for spaces.)

It can't be seen in the rendered HTML, as your browser will reduce multiple spaces to one.

Did I hear that right? Mondegreens - for the misheard word.

    Re:New auto-corrections imported

The redirection system is great. There's very few cases for me where it causes a problem. The incorrect redirection from Killers is one of them.

But those are still really helpful for group connections. A group owner might otherwise never notice that they've connected to the incorrect spelling. Also, just because there's a redirection system, doesn't mean people should be lazy with their ID3 tags.

  • I've asked it before, I'll ask it again: When will auto corrections show up in the library? The bulk of useful functions on Last.FM are tied to the library. As long as it's getting cluttered up with tracks that would have been auto corrected under the old system but aren't now, it's more or less useless. Any ETA on getting this corrected?

are you sure this is how it is? after checking a few songs in my library, only the correct version remains.

    * No more Fix your tags images or wikis, add a correction instead.

wikis are still helpful sometimes, particularly for tricky track titles. and preferably with a musicbrainz or some other authoritative reference added for good measure.

there are instances when track titles look suspect but aren't - and those that look valid but aren't. casual listeners might otherwise just vote for what seems right (no disrespect meant), which might account for the many wrong redirects i've come across.

as a simple example, which of the 3 tracks below would you say is valid?

    1. How Are You Gonna Deal With It (btw, only this one streams)
    2. How Are You Gonna Deal With It?
    3. How Are You Gonna' Deal With It (suggests you go to #1)
