Personal library playing only one song per artist

Personal library playing only one song per artist

I'm not sure if this is a new thing with the radio, but every time I tune into my personal library radio, it loops around the same song for every artist, only occasionally expanding to another song, but even then this is rare and I have yet to see those songs again in the radio.

I mean, I don't hate these songs, but when I want it to play my library, I kind of want it to mix all the songs my favorite bands have on lastFM, and not the same damn song over and over again.

So is this a bug, or is it the new policy, because I don't remember it being like this?

  • There are a few bugs with the random nature of the radio. But are you saying that one song by one artist is playing back to back to back?

Or is this a circumstance where 40-50 different artists are playing, but they just play the same track for that artist each time?

All comments reflect the views of the poster and not of last.fm or it's management.

The later, a have a little over a hundred artist, but they're playing the same song, and sometimes in the same order, as if its on a non random playlist.

I finally identified the (possible) bug. It wasn't threads, nor a linux kernel setting as I suspected (although the latter had an indirect role), but a problem with a buffer on high load.
I fixed it right after leaving the office but I did not have much time to test it, so if it happens again (on library, loved or recommended radio), please let me know.

    Btw, thanks for the patience!

  • I'll let you know if it's working there must be 100's of songs in my libary that never play

thks for that, nova. will be sure to report on whether this fixes my library radio as well. like the op said, some songs from the same artists are playing ad nauseum.

U.G.L.Y. - changing the face of music, one artist at a time.
there are some things pngs can't fix. for everything else, there's pngoptimizer.

Brilliant work! I'll give it a try over the weekend. Really excited. :)

Library - that includes our tag radios?

My eyes are filled with tears of joy now. Even the mere possibility that there's a fix for this issue is wonderful. I'll definitely give it a try and report in :D Thanks a lot nova77LF

I'm still seeing this problem on the ipod app. Seems like I'm getting the same songs every time I start my library.

I'm still seeing the same behavior when listening to my personal tag radio. :(

    Why not? It's zeitgeist, baby!

Unfortunately, my artist tag radio isn't "fixed" either :( But it's good to know staff is working on the problem

  • It's getting better but not there yet

From my testing the library seems somewhat better, but the tag radios don't seem to have improved.

I've only recently joined but this is the most frustrating thing for me. I was hoping for a good random selection of tracks when playing my library but this doesn't happen. For example, Steely Dan is in my library. This artist has played 5 times but each time with the SAME TRACK!
    Very disappointed!

@Andybags: it does play the same track because that's the only one you have in your library!

Library radio, plays only the tracks you have in your library, unless you added a whole artist (with "add to my library").

If you were taught that elves caused rain, every time it rained, you'd see the proof of elves.

That's what I've done - with ALL my library artists!

    Very interesting! I'll investigate!

@Andybags: yep, you where totally correct. It was a pretty nasty bug! :-)

I have fixed it, but it is currently running only on a part of the users (we wanna make sure the fix did not brake anything else) and if it goes well, we will switch everybody tomorrow.

Andybags, you're in the fixed set already.. ;)

Thank you! Subscribers report that playlists don't skip tracks anymore as well. Hope it stays, because it had already been fixed before, but only for a couple of days, and then a lot of tracks (albums actually) stopped playing again.

  • I'll let you know if mine is working when one of the countless tracks in my libary that hasn't played before, actually plays

    @ Nova77LF
It's been playing great for a few hours now - a good random mix, which is what I always wanted, so thanks a lot - good job!
However....! None of these tracks appear on any of my lists - nothings being refreshed.
The music is more important to me, so I'm still happy!

@Andybags: have you been using the flash player or the last.fm client app?

If you were taught that elves caused rain, every time it rained, you'd see the proof of elves.
  • There are server-issues at the moment, so any played track could be cached now... But scrobbling tracks from your library seems to be not possible atm, according to my friends.
