So it isn't fixed yet? Seems to take a couple of days, maybe weeks. Wanted to upload some .gif pictures that I've edited to 160x160 but it doesn't seem to work... :( Hope it works as soon as possible.

  • I tried changing my avatar to a new gif but that one didn't work, then when I tried to go back to my original one it didn't work either.

And it was a really cool gif too....

  • mine isn't working

i hope you guys will fix this. i had this avatar since i joined (and became subscriber)

message for all the ppl who dislike animated gifs and felt the urge to express it here: yaaaaaaawn

    I've been talking drunken gibberish...
  • My old Sanctity windmill-headbanging avatar actually got a lot of positive comments and shoutbox posts, noone seemed to dislike it...

It seems to me that this issue really isn't very high on the priority list. I hope I'm wrong.

You stole fizzy lifting drinks. You bumped into the ceiling which now has to be washed and sterilized, so you get nothing! You lose! Good day sir!

This is just a guess, but they have a limited number of programmers, and most are probably working on the beta site (subscribers know what I mean).

So yeah, it may not be a priority, but I'm sure it will be fixed in time. After all, even old animated avatars are broken on the beta site. At least those still work on the live site.

In short, it's definitely in the queue, but where, I don't know.

  • I wish I could have gotten this many people riled up about the time stamps being foobared for so long.... (Always scrobbling in GMT).

It's amazing what battles the user base will choose.

The good news is it appears to be on the developer's plates to fix, this of course is also the bad news :D J/k, hope you guys get your animations back soon.

I'm off to sadly stare at my profile page where things are scrobbling an hour earlier than it really is... Seems time zones may be temporarily foobared again....

Are you using a GMT offset or a city?

  • City. Trust me. I'm the king of complaining about time zones when mine is set up perfectly. The only reason I re-subscribed recently was because it was finally fixed, hey, but only one hour off is better than the 7 hours 4-7 months ago.

But I don't want to thread crap anymore than I already have ;D

I'll bring this up in another thread I'm already part of.

Hey, what's wrong with the animated gifs? :P

For all I know, you're the one who told me to use City instead of Offset, but since I don't remember, I figured it was worth a shot.

Oh, and I sure hope they fix animated GIFs soon. ;)

Wish somebody would lock this thread... what more do you want? The developers are aware of the issue, they've said as much more than once and they're working on it. It's the weekend now, so this isn't getting fixed for a while. If you have a solution, send the code along. If you don't have anything helpful to say, stop talking.

My oh my...aren't you mature to lecture all those little squealers out there...

Why are you even posting here if you're so not interested in the topic after all?

    I'm using quotation marks too:
"Talking and eloquence are not the same: to speak and to speak well are two things. A fool may talk, but a wise man speaks."
    So, stop talking yourself.

  • I'm sorry, but I genuinely just don't see what a post like the one above is going to achieve. The bug has been reported to Last.fm staff, and they've acknowledged it.

I'm sure it's stored wherever they store details on bugs (trac, whatever) and they will fix it at some point. It's not like repeatedly posting here is going to remind somebody to go and fix it quickly.

There are less than 100 people working for Last.fm (it's still very much a small company), and with a new beta version of the site currently being fixed up they're probably very busy.

Hope this helps clarify why I was "lecturing"

Perhaps the fact that now this thread will appear in nicoinfurs' replytracker... so exactly like me writing "tag :P", but you already thought about this, didn't you?

Nope, I didn't - but if they'd written "Tracking replies" or "Track" I would've done...

Because they were uploaded before the new resizing code, and thus, the different sizes are cached, at least on the live site.

IOW, they're only resized once, and then are cached. So if they're cached under the old code, they work, but new uploads are resized using the new code.

On the beta site, I don't think any animated avatars work, because it uses different sizes, and thus, uses the new, buggy resizing code.

Now if you upload an avatar that doesn't need to be resized, at least on your profile, and it still doesn't work there, I don't even have a theory for that. Other than maybe they covert them to their own code, even when resizing isn't necessary.
