    BIG DAY OUT
Monday 26th of January, 2009 – Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne.

    Sparkadia: 11:00AM-11:45AM (Orange Stage)
    Watched: ALL OF SET
Sparkadia opened Big Day Out’s main stage with songs from their debut record, ‘Postcards’. The sound wasn’t as good in an outside venue, but it was still a solid set. The performance included ‘Too Much To Do’, ‘Animals’, ‘Morning Light’, ‘Connected’, ‘Up In The Air’, and Triple J hottest 100 tune, ‘Jealousy’.
    Rating: 7/10

I watched two songs from Rocket Science’s set, but there was no immediate appeal to me so I ventured over to the Converse Stage to watch Eddy Current Suppression Ring.

Eddy Current Suppression Ring: 12:30PM-1:15PM (Converse Essential Stage)
    Watched: 12:30-12:55
Melbourne-based Australian rock group, Eddy Current Suppression Ring put on a brave performance at Big Day Out’s Converse Stage. The unusual rockers had a fair crowd surrounding the stage. The band belted out tunes for the already sweaty crowd. …

Mon 26 Jan – Big Day Out
On the face of it, this year's BDO did seem to have quite an ordinary lineup for some, but in the end I found myself unable to break with tradition and went along anyway. And boy am I glad I did!

The day started off pretty cruisy hanging around up the back of the D watching Sparkadia and a little bit of Children Collide before heading down the front for one of my favourite bands, Birds Of Tokyo. Once again, they put on a great performance, albeit with an almost identical setlist to the last two times I've seen them. Ian Kenny's usual space cadet dance was in full flight, and the mood was lowered a bit by the absolute idiots in the mosh pit - did I miss a meeting? Since when did Birds of Tokyo warrant a circle pit? Oh, and I felt a tap on my shoulder about halfway through the set, turned out to be an old friend I hadn't seen in a few months. That was cool. (8/10)

After having a little bit of a look at The Grates, Little Red was the next point of call. …
