• Initial Download Festival Reaction

    10. Feb. 2009, 0:36 von Droogie_Will

Every year I fall for it. I fall for the hype of the Download Festival announcement, and they've managed to botch it every time.

Nevertheless I always end up going and having a fantastic time. What Download do differently to other festival organisers is they don't announce all of the headliners at once, which to me seems bizarre, and it seems to result in a lot of confusion in potential ticket buyers.

I think Slipknot will make a great headliner, and will pull out all the stops for what is essentially their biggest UK gig to date, possibly even worldwide. Furthermore, one of my highlights of Download 2007 were Motley Crue, so I'm glad to see they're returning, and the rumours of a Sunday intrigue me, even if I can't stand Def Leppard.

Korn are a band I've come to expect to see on the lineup, kind of like Slayer, Slipknot, Metallica and the other revolving artists that can't stay away for too long, and there's no real complains from me about their inclusion.

  • Marilyn Manson @ Wembley - The MRDA Overview!

Wed 5 Dec – Marilyn Manson, Turbonegro

As ever, Marilyn Manson put on quite a show, with raised platforms, confetti and whatnot; yet I couldn't get fully into the mood to *really* appreciate it. Maybe it was the atmosphere of the venue, or the crowd, the not-as-pleasing as Donington setlist (no Great Big White World) or just something gnawing at me concerning all the above - whatever! The Beautiful People seemed strangely anticlimactic - perhaps a new finishing song is in order? Having enjoyed the Download set immensely, I left this one with a somewhat ambivalent feeling. Good, but, unlike his preceding UK visit, hardly wow-inducing for me. Still, points to Warner and co for giving The Reflecting God a good airing.....

Stacking up against last years linup, this years was somewhat stagnant.

To start off, having never heard them before we sat through "The Zico Chain"'s set, which was quite good, although not amazing. they had a good attitude, and their sound was good and catchy, althouhg not entirely to my taste i had an appreciation for them. Then we migrated to the Dimebag stage where we watched Ill Nino, who were mediocre. i've seen Ill Nino before and it wasnt much different. The "best new band" for this day had to be Porcupine Tree. They were a pleasant suprise and their attitude and stage presence was immense, and they had a good relationship with the crowd. They sounded great, and although i generally find it hard to enjoy bands without hearing any of their stuff, i can safely say i did them.
The main two bands i wanted to see on this day was From Autumn To Ashes and KoRn. FATA were unsurpassed…
  • acid pills anyone?

i dont know about anyone else but over the wednsday to monday i "came across" a hell of alot of intoxicants. but the ones that fucked me over was the acid pills (orange, yellow and green smilies) i had. when your sat in your tent to scared to go outside because you are convinced your in a POW camp, you done to much. especially when you start to think that you tent has turned in to a set of lungs and the people around you chanting mmmm GARY are possesd its time for a walk.

The next thing ( this was drunk the next day) i saw that fucked me off was one of the security trucks/buggy hitting this dude, the guy breaks his leg and is shouting at them. what do they do? kick the kid to the side of the track and when they realise his leg is broken they drive off faster than you can say chav cunt.

anyway korn kicked ass and i almost pissed myself when this guy who was obviously trollyed started taking a piss on some girls leg 2 feet to the right of me. …

Suicidal Tendencies were fucking amazing!! My first crowd surf and i was dropped off at the front just in time to jump on stage and pledge my fucking alliegance with 20-odd other lucky bastards! ha! AND i met the guitarist of Ted Maul, he was running about next to me and i thought to myself "what a strange place to see him again.." so i said hullo of course!! At the end of the show i got to shake the hand of Cyco Mike AND i have his sweat all over my hand still! All in all that was a great fucking set and an awesome performance from the legends that are SUICIDAL TENDENCIES.
oh and if anyone has a picture of us on stage i would muchly appreciate it if you got in touch and sent me a photo. my friend was meant to be taking pictures whilst i was in the pit, but guess what, he fucking didn't!! But still, that was an amazing experience that i'm never gonna forget.. hope you guys had fun watching them too (unless you were too busy watching Korn or bottling MCR)

Oh my god. Download is the most amazing thing I've ever been to!

The thing I want to get out before I mention bands or music is the people, you're all so cool and friendly and great and therefore the atmosphere is just such a constant party, friendly thing and... wow :)

It's such a shame about what happened with MCR, even though the so called riot-starters got nothing like the reaction they wanted against MCR... There were a lot of bottles thrown at the start, quite a bit of booing, then as the gig went on most of these people went away, or got bored and hushed. They went on to play a brilliant show though :)

Marilyn Manson - this was the first time I saw him, so of course I was impressed, though I think he should have played more old stuff. Still, great to see him play!

Linkin Park were incredible. They played perfectly and Chester is such a good singer. The mosh pit to Faint is one I'll never forget.

Bloody good festival, saw loads of really decent bands; Maiden, Megadeth, Slayer, Motley Crue...
Saw a few bands I'm gonna keep my eyes open for too; Turisas, Orange Goblin, the Indian fellows who's name escapes me right now...

Maiden really had a decent show, eddie, tanks, explosions, Bruce Dickinson rolling around on the floor!
Everyone who went seemed to be split down the middle when it came to My Chemical Romance; half came to see them, and half were in disgust about their emo-ness. but they survived the bottling they got so fair play to 'em I reckon!

The other bit I thought was so good about this one; the randoms I met on the last evening: cheers guys: Craig with the Strongbows, The short south african girl with the beer-can mace, the Mitchell Clan, dudette with the green wig, the BLS T-Shirt dude, all the friendly police (well done lads!), everyone giving away free hugs, Kristine (Shrewsbury, count me in!), and anyone else I may have forgotten!
