    I don't know if I'd say that Couleurs went off. The bass was so loud that it was making my teeth chatter. The only thing that impressed me there was the metro PA's incredible amount of headroom. Aside from the obvious mix problems, I think this show is was a textbook case of why synth bass generally doesn't work live. I think that a band needs to set an upper bound on how loud their synth parts are going to be and then work within that range. It's very easy to define your operating dynamic range using a bass guitar and amp, as a bassist rarely changes his volume during the set. Playing your bass guitar hard produces your loudest bass sounds, which is a natural reaction to a musical crescendo. Synth bass that is played over by bass guitar usually results in songs that are very bassy and loud, and ones that are flat and lacklustre. If a band is going to do this, they need to be very meticulous in setting the levels of their bass patches. Overall, a boring and stiff show. Avoid.

    I thought it was pretty flat. Apparently so did the guy who fell asleep on the couch near where I was standing upstairs. Agreed about the photographers - one tried to get the girl I was with to pose, but she refused and kept sending a text. He took the photo anyway.

    I wish that photographer had a diffuser that covered his flash more completely; or at least stopped taking portrait photos and pointing the upturned flash right in my eyes.
